14 Years & Still Loving Every Moment!

At every orientation, Julia Rickert shares that, “I graduated from IHN in 2007, then couldn’t leave!”. Julia began working for IHN right after earning her CNP. It was a favour. She was asked by Sanchia Fenster (IHN’s longtime Toronto campus head administrator), to take over her desk while she visited her beloved South Africa. Julia went from selling books and M-bars, to opening Mississauga campus, to her current role for the last 11 years, producing Co-op Placements, Guest Speakers, and Continuing Education. With a background in communication, marketing, and management, her exceptional talents are required at every turn. She conceived IHN’s Weekly Digest as outreach to students and graduates and is a faculty member, teaching a class in Professional Practice that she is uniquely qualified for, from her extensive work with CNPs, Networking Nutritionists, IONC, CANNP and her long time role as National Campaign Manager at NHPPA. She is regularly sought out for advice from professionals in the field and makes herself available to inspire with insight, generosity, and humour. She cannot wait to get to work and loves the fully integrated, and dynamic, days with “the team!”. IHN has changed thousands of graduates’ lives, and by extension, hundreds and thousands of their client’s lives—this brings her life meaning and fulfillment. As far as she is concerned, there will likely not be a time that IHN will be without her!

A New Academic Semester Begins

This week returning students joined us for class online and on-campus, after enjoying their summer holidays. Pictured above, two of our faculty teaching students mid-class. On Tuesday, September 7, classes commenced on-site at the Vancouver campus (top picture). Olivia Szostek is discussing the fundamentals of critical thinking around research in Advanced Nutrition Research to in-class students. On Wednesday, September 8, Toronto, Mississauga, and Ottawa in-class students (bottom picture) logged in virtually, as current Covid mandates have them learning online for the fall semester. Anita Sauve is lecturing on the nutritional requirements and health concerns for prenatal development in Nutrition through the Lifespan. Returning online students joined their peers from locations all around the globe, excited to be together again to continue their education in alternative health and holistic nutrition.
The Final Day Of Registrations To Attend Live Orientation

Will you be able to join us later? Absolutely! But today marked the day our administration needed to have you connect in order to ensure you were set for the first day of classes, starting next week. We cannot wait to roll into our 26th year with an incredible new student body who will eventually be part of the global IHN Alumni family! New students are a welcome impetus to help counteract the challenges we face in the world, through the evolution to natural health, holistic medicine, and whole wellness living.

An Athlete Adopts A New Way Of Eating

A Montreal-based former CFL star is now considered a poster child for plant-based athletes. Marc-Olivier Brouillette experienced more energy, more muscle, and better recovery in the last three years of his football career, once he gave up animal products. In a May 28, 2021 Alive Magazine article (4 minute read), “How Plant-based Eating Changed One Athlete’s Life”, Brouillette remembers, “It started as a performance-based health decision, but I think as you immerse yourself in it, you become more conscious of the environmental and animal cruelty.” Eating consciously, in whatever diet regimen one follows, is paramount.

This sweet and nutty vegetable is a staple in South African cuisine and is known as butternut pumpkin in Australia and New Zealand. Butternut squash is one of the most common varieties of winter squash. Contrary to the name, winter squash is grown in the summer and harvested in the fall. The word squash comes from the Narragansett word askutasquash, meaning "eaten raw or uncooked". It was introduced to grocery stores for the first time in 1944. Butternut squash is an excellent source of vitamins A and C, dietary fiber, potassium, and magnesium.
