Our alignment and purpose includes you. We have met so many of you over the time that you have been a subscriber to our IHN This Week, and it has sincerely been our pleasure getting to know you. One of the sure signs that you are occupying the space of your calling is when you begin to attract amazing people into your life. The phenomenon agrees with, “birds of a feather” but we suppose, more aptly for a nutrition program, we should say, “peas in a pod”. Attracting amazing people to IHN, is something we are used to! Our curriculum includes demanding academics that are functional, therapeutic and evidence-based but connecting with your higher-self—your spirit—is as much a part of holistic nutrition in practice as is the empirical.

Do you experience any of these fundamental natures of reality?

• You feel more energetic and excited about life
• Things are almost effortless, you are in a flow, have less anxiety, confusion and overwhelm
• You see other people living your passion—showing you that your vision is possible!
• People tell you that there is “something about you” that glows
• You see images, hear conversations, that answer your questions seemingly out of nowhere
• You have a sense that you are being guided, and listen to your intuition
• You see synchronicity in happenings, that others may only call coincidence

If these sound familiar, then you are in alignment. If not, we want you to find your way to a life that is.

Orientation is this Saturday September 12th, and we’d love your alignment and purpose to begin!

A Little Boost With A Big Effect

Having been involved in athletics throughout his whole life, and initially garnering an interest in nutrition for its application in sport, anything holistic and natural that can boost performance attracts Theodore's (Theo) attention. In the summer of 2018 while earning his degree in Mental Health at the University of Toronto, Theo first discovered pine pollen at a booth while working a trade show for IHN in Vancouver. Even though he didn't know anything about its benefits, it first caught his eye since he lived right among an abundance of pine trees. He learned how pine pollen mimics male hormones, boosting performance, and has additional anti-aging, anti-cancer, antiviral, and stem cell response activation, benefitting both men and women. Since then, while he doesn't harvest it himself, Theo has cycled his use of sustainably harvested pine pollen, making it a staple in his smoothies and smoothie bowls.

Theodore is the Co-op Placements and Community Development Coordinator, and Program Advisor at IHN's North York Campus. He is an important part of the team at IHN—click and scroll to see Theodore's feature from August 19, 2021

While the colour green is talked about quite often in the field of holistic nutrition, and diets like the rainbow diet emphasize the importance of various colours, one that is rarely spoken about positively when it comes to natural foods is the colour black. An interesting undated article (5 minute read), reveals how when it comes to nutritious foods, black is the new green. Andrea Donsky explains how “there are many black foods that are loaded with important nutrients, including pigments known as anthocyanins, which have been shown to reduce the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.” This article will leave you looking at black foods in a new light, and all the benefits they can provide you.

Cashews are a member of the tree nut family, native to south America. They are a source of healthy fat and plant-based protein, copper, magnesium and manganese. Today, many cultures include cashews in sauces, curries, and desserts. They have a naturally creamy texture and taste, creating a decadent touch to any dish. All parts of the cashew tree can be used, including the nut, fruit, seeds, and shells. We recommend this Decadent Cashew Cream recipe by IHN graduate Elissa Radocchia.

Correction: Spelling of our graduate's name on her Easy Fermented Carrots recipe in the August 30, 2022 email was wrong--Crina Cretu, was spelled incorrectly as Crena, oops! 🤦‍♀️
