Lyndsey Griffith is the founder of Rooted In Ritual, helping her clients connect with their body, mind, spirit, and the earth itself. Her background in nutrition, psychology, yoga, and reiki all merge together in her 1 on 1 consultations. She also offers a virtual space where events are hosted to support attendees along their personal journeys. Lyndsey is currently training to add holistic birth services to her arsenal.

Nakisa Saxton is the founder of Moj Wellness, a personalized nutrition guidance coaching practice based off the principle that the healing process is full of waves, or Moj in Farsi. There is a strength found in the non-linear process of healing, and it is due to this process that everyone needs their own direction. She also believes in creating positive relationships with food, offering recipes and meal plans promoting this.

Stephanie Bonetta is a passionate Certified Nutritional Practitioner, chef, and yoga instructor, offering courses, workshops, culinary creations, and yoga retreats. From cooking class sessions to an online interactive course about Ayurveda, to a full yoga retreat in Italy, Stephanie provides experiences meant to open your heart, aid in becoming the best version of yourself, ultimately creating a more loving world.

An Excerpt From IHN's Lab Diagnostics in Clinical Practice Con Ed Course!

Last week, Dr. David Duizer, ND outlined a holistic approach to metabolism assessment and treatment. From disrupting metabolism and slowing metabolic rate to causing mental/emotional distress and disordered eating habits, popular weight loss programs often cause more harm than good. Sustainable, reliable, and effective weight loss programs need to be individualized, which comes from understanding how to properly analyze metabolism and calorie-burning efficiency. Through clinical laboratory and functional testing, David is able to determine high-value targets for rapid metabolic improvements and efficient weight loss.

We are already a month into learning for both first and second semester students. There are a variety of courses being taught concurrently but the snap shots and screen grabs of the images above and below are our new students starting with Nutrition & Health: The Fundamentals. Images were captured from both our Eastern and Pacific time zones, featuring some of our new first semester students from the LIVE In-class and Online Daytime programs as well as our REPLAY Evening cohorts.

Last week was all fats and proteins. The exploration of harmful and beneficial fats met the structure and naming of proteins. An IHN graduate can hardly fry, poach or boil an egg without remembering albumin's irreversible quaternary structure!

The future of a student in our field is dependent, to name only a few, on their drive, discipline and skill sets. How they shape (speaking of structures) IHN's curriculum content to align with their goals is something that is done over time. IHN credits the unfolding of its lessons to our sensational instructors. From basic to increasingly complex topics and skills, our faculty members define, engage and illuminate the real-world, professional space through their supportive conversations.

Just A Few More Things To Hand In!

Two academic requirements to be eligible to graduate in April 2022 include Herbal Medicine's Herb Walk and Nutrition & The Environment's Farm Trip. In December of last year, IHN moved the yearly convocation date to April. This gave current students, who were only a course or two away from completing their program, a quicker jump on calling themselves Certified Nutritional Practitioners.

This is a reminder that the deadline for all April 2022 graduating students to hand in their in lieu of assignments is growing nearer! All students, from all campuses and online programs, would have received an email with all details, and attached .pdfs in January.

Ontario In-class + Online Eastern student deadline to submit: February 17, 2022
Students are to upload their assignments to SonisWeb, through the faculty member who taught the course. Any questions about the in lieu of assignment or report* can be answered by Inder Gharial at [email protected] or 905.615.9090

Vancouver In-class + Online Pacific students deadline to submit: March 1, 2022

*Since the landscape in most of Canada, North Eastern USA and other parts of the colder world are not conducive to these trips, the in lieu of assignments were created to help facilitate more students in receiving their Diploma and Certification before the end of this year, that originally held their convocation at the end of November. IHN students who live in warmer climates without the need for snow ploughs or snow shovels are able to enjoy another version of the in lieu of assignment that we call a "report". The report allows those who can explore wild herbs and edible weeds, or visit farms, that are in their growing season, to participate in a self-created, independently organized experience.

We'll Make Things Work For You Around Your Schedule

IHN’s Continuing Education provides an ever popular catalog of advanced courses to upgrade your skills. Our courses have been accessed by students all over the world while real-time instruction is in progress.

If the course starts and you cannot make it at that time, or that day, links to the recorded class are sent out the next day before noon. All links to the lessons are live until three weeks after the course ends. This allows you to keep up with the class and have access to the faculty member.

Questions you have can be answered via email or at the top of the next class. WhatsApp or Facebook groups are created in order to bring all peers taking the class together for exchange. The only component of the course that needs to be done on the same day as the other students, or proctored by administration at a time that works for you, are the tests and final exam.

All digital course notes and the instructor's full PowerPoint presentation deck are included. IHN's Con Ed programming invites holistic nutritionists or natural health practitioners from all schools and programs. Our Con Eds meet the upgrading requirements of the IONC, CANNP and, our American partner, NANP.

We have become over-stimulated by a barrage of news that can be classified as modus-interruptus. In a January 26, 2022 article (3 minute read) written by Jason Wachob, author Johann Hari, of Stolen Focus, says that “[Your] attention did not collapse – your attention has been stolen from you and we have to respond by protecting ourselves at the individual level”. To optimize your daily performance, Hari encourages individuals to increase their sleep, to minimize multi-tasking and setting time limits on technology. Holistically minded folks we may be, but there remains opportunities to boost productivity through small changes that create a lasting impact.
