He's Back In The Saddle!

Sylva Sheridan returned last month and works virtually from his Ottawa office in IHN's Communications and Program Advising department. Sylva was part of IHN Ottawa’s first group of graduating students, completing the fulltime diploma program in 2016. He was immediately hired as IHN Ottawa’s Administrative Coordinator and Program Advisor. He was promoted to Campus Manager in April 2017 where he oversaw all operations of the campus, including Ottawa's Co-op and Continuing Education program. In May 2018, he returned to Carleton University to finish his undergraduate degree and pursue graduate school. Sylva earned his Master of Arts in Legal Studies in June 2021. We could not be prouder! He researched and wrote a thesis on the intergenerational effects of residential schools with special attention to the overrepresentation of Indigenous children in the child welfare system. If you are interested in reading Sylva's thesis, let him know!

Syl (as we call him) works primarily with Julia Rickert and Hannah Rauhanen on IHN’s external and internal communications, social media, guest speakers, and Program Advising. He is thrilled to be back working for IHN (and seeing so many familiar faces) and to meet with new and potential students. Sylva firmly believes that IHN graduates play an instrumental role in supporting clients through advanced clinical nutrition practices, one avocado at a time!

Alleviating Stress With Nutrition, Supplementation & Lifestyle Modifications

In this lecture, Sofia Pistrila explores the idea that what you eat affects how you feel, and is also well supported with research. However, food and nutrients are rarely considered as a key strategy for supporting mental health and alleviating stress. This talk will show you specifically how foods and nutrients support or compromise the way your brain works, and how you feel. You will learn the key foods and nutrients to use – or avoid – for improving mood, managing stress, and addressing anxiety and depression. In addition to addressing specific foods, this talk will detail natural supplementation and lifestyle interventions that will help reverse some of the symptoms of stress you may already have and also build your resilience for the future.
