Dr. Shawn Meirovici Shares Material From His Con Ed Course

Join us on Tuesday April 5 at 7:00 PM ET/4:00 PM PT for a 1 hour webinar as Dr. Shawn Meirovici ND discusses the use of cannabis in sport! Once again, during the most recent summer Olympic games, the world witnessed controversy surrounding the use of cannabis as a performance enhancing drug. Robin Williams is famously quoted as saying "the only way marijuana is performance enhancing is if there is a big Hershey bar at the finish line". Cannabis has been banned by the world anti-doping agency since 2004 but the question of it being a real performance enhancer is still debated. In this webinar we look at the science surrounding cannabis and its relevance in sport.
Embracing The Future Direction Of Holistic Nutritionists

Elizabeth Papadopoulos doesn't often do public talks, but when she does, it ends with joy and laughter. She keeps a pretty low profile, with her focus always on the jillion moving parts of managing IHN, but was thrilled to connect with IONC members at their Annual General Meeting at the end of 2021. We are finally getting around to sharing how much she enjoyed connecting with professionals, from the many nutrition schools that represent the ever-advancing, credible and vibrant profession of Holistic Nutrition.

Elizabeth's talk, A Time of Transformation for Holistic Nutritionists, held thoughts on the global landscape that has changed dramatically over the last two years. She spoke to the responsibility of current, and future, natural health practitioners to restore earth's natural order; empower the public to move towards conscious living, in all of its facets; and remind peers to critically think, use their intuition and seek truth.

She reestablished that IHN's mission is to advocate for one's own health, and those of family, friends and loved ones, through natural, integrative and functional medicine solutions. Entrust the power to be a diplomat of holistic living, and collaborate towards a collective wellbeing.

Quotes (below), from Elizabeth's keynote (pictured above) to IONC:

"When we lose touch with ourselves and who we are, fear becomes a hallmark emotion. When we are in touch with our spirit and with ourselves fear cannot reside. Laughter and carefreeness are key factors in getting in touch with yourself, and with your spirit, and remembering your divinity. There is a light inside you that is laughter. Laughter, dance, music, playwe are meant to see and feel the deliciousness of life. Besides all of the profound evidenced biochemical truths that change our physical states of when we laugh, so too does our psycho-spiritual self, and by extension our entire reality."

"Remember that, in my opinion, we all come to this earth to do one thing—that is to learn how to love. To think about love, talk about love, to seek, offer and encourage love to be a dominant force in our lives. To know that everyone is deserving of love. It is the heart of creating. The heart of knowledge. It is the ultimate emotion that leads us to truth. It is the experiential knowledge of who you really are."

"There is an idea I learned of called a “societal parallel structure”. It is any form of organization, business, institution, knowledge or creative pursuit that exists physically within a mainstream narrative, yet morally outside of it. It is a “second culture” or “parallel society” that spontaneously forms, and functions as an enclave of freedom and sanity, within a reality that feels confined. I believe that every natural health practitioner is a powerful parallel structure showing that a different life can be lived, a life that is in harmony with the highest good for all souls."
Creating Captivating Presentations Through Engaging Visuals

Pictured above, Jesse Lane Lee was captured teaching a Professional Skills Development lecture to students mid-class. She is a pro at taking the artform of presentation, positioning, and public speaking, and making those skills attainable for anyone regardless their background or any possible personal apprehensions. All who know Jesse can attest to her unfailingly genuine and generous personality! Professional Skills Development is a key component in taking all that is learnt throughout IHN's Applied Holistic Nutrition program, and learning how to communicate it in the best way possible! Student feedback indicates that this course empowered them to have the courage to take a leap in their career and market themselves for what they're worth in a both professional, and personable, way.

We asked Jesse what the IHN Family might not know about her:

"Public speaking is something I've always enjoyed my whole life. When I was really little, I did French speech competitions in grade school. I also started dancing when I was really young and I danced for 26 years until I started school at IHN. I love being on stage performing, and I thrive when I have everyone's attention, so when I went to IHN, Professional Skills was by far my favourite course. When I graduated, even though there wasn't an opening for an instructor, I emailed Elizabeth saying 'I love this course so much, I really really would love to teach it to help other students overcome their fear of public speaking and find the joy that I have when I public speak.' The universe provided and I've been teaching this course going on 8 years. I also love that I learn so much from my students. There's so many presentations, so I get to know them really well, and their passions and interests."

Join Jesse for a Professional Skills Development refresher that offers plenty of connectivity! It's always half off the regular course fee for all graduates.
Engage In Advanced Learning Regardless Your Credentials

If you want to take one of IHN's Con Ed courses but aren't sure if courses are open to non-graduates of IHN, rest assured knowing that they are! IHN's Con Ed programming invites holistic nutritionists or natural health practitioners from all accredited schools across Canada, the US and the world. We have had the pleasure of sharing space with incredible graduates from peer institutions like CSNN, Edison, Alive, Pacific Rim, Bastyr and Hawthorn. These courses are a wonderful way to upgrade your skills, expand your knowledge and reach your practice goals. They are set up to be as accessible as possible while maintaining the benefits of a LIVE experience. We recognize that not everyone can be with us in the same time zone. We send recordings of the lectures to all enrolled students, during the time of the course. A Facebook or WhatsApp group is started to have those not learning LIVE with us, still have the ability to connect with faculty members and their peers. For those who are members of the IONC and CANNP, these courses also qualify in meeting upgrading requirements.

Every so often you'll find a few jobs posted here as we transition. IHN's capacity to build Employment Opportunities had reached its bandwidth when we were mandated to close campuses and limit staff, back in March 2020. We are resilient and look forward to bringing back programming one step at a time. Employment Opportunities will be moving to another platform that will be part of the Alumni/Student Membership. For today though, please see the opportunities sent directly to us below.

In ancient Europe, turnip was a popular vegetable mainly grown for its affordability. Today, turnip is vastly available and enjoyed in warming, grounding dishes. Turnip’s name is derived from a Latin term describing the cross formed by its four petals. It is technically a cruciferous vegetable but thought of as a root vegetable. Ancient turnips resembled carrots, compared to the round variety grown today. They are a good source of fibre, vitamins, magnesium, and iron. We recommend using turnip in this Grounding Split Pea Soup recipe by IHN graduate Michelle Vysohlid.
