Connecting The CNP Community

Temperature is always a hot topic. The geography conversation about where students and graduates have roots came up often, and increasingly more so, over the last year. "Do you know of any students or graduates living in cities in the Caribbean or anywhere that doesn't snow!?" IHN has made introductions between the IHN CNP family in England, New Zealand, Mexico, Germany and all across Canada and the US. Right now, Florida is a popular state this year. We know of 5 CNPs who are there now but there are likely many more we don't know of. So we are looking! Our goal is to expand our reach for direct peer-to-peer connection. The three most cited reasons for asking are:

1.The peer already lives/works in the state or country now! When IHN launched its online program two years ago, amazing people from around the world have joined us and are now hoping to meet friends in the physical space.

2.The peer wants to move to a climate that doesn't have a cold, snowy season (sorry, winter) and would like to get in touch with local CNPs to chat about towns or cities in the area.

3.The peer wants to find graduates who can become potential Co-op partners; they are looking for Co-op experiences in the area, and would like to touch base with a graduate who is local while they are there; or a graduate is looking to collaborate with another graduate on a retreat, farming or practice initiative.

The Caribbean, Mediterranean, Southeast Asia, Southern States, Latin America, Africa or the Middle East.

If you are a student or graduate, or know of a student or graduate, who lives/works in a warm climate, please email Julia Rickert at [email protected]
Juliana Martins' Co-op/Practicum Experience

We have hundreds of rewarding and ongoing work/learn placements with Juliana's being no less so! Juliana chose to complete hers with a company called, BORA ORGANICOS, located in Brazil, where they sell weekly tropical produce boxes and participate in farmers' markets. If you are in the area, check out their organic coffee, unpasteurized honey, fruits, vegetables, preserves and wine!

Juliana loved that Bora Organicos connected community with farmers. She wanted to work alongside the owner and team to learn about their conscious, sustainable operations. Juliana is a chef and runs her own holistic food preparation company based out of Toronto. This skill set allowed her to integrate quickly into Bora Organico's new meal prep initiative. Juliana shared "I am getting sooooo much fresh produce, and clean animal protein, my fridge is packed! I feel blessed! There was an event for Nutritionist Day at a local university where we had a fresh produce stand. I did a talk on the importance of organics, sustainability and "imperfect" fruits and vegetables, to get people buying them! We prepared organic, local salads, juices, cakes, and organic wine made in the state of Bahia, where I was born."

It's incredible to see a university like UNIME (Metropolitan Union of Education and Culture), have a whole career day dedicated to Nutritionists. We asked Juliana for a few details, "the event was organized by the Faculty of Nutrition with a series of talks that included entrepreneurship in nutrition, how supplements work in muscular hypertrophy, metabolic flexibility from sedentary individuals to athletes, social responsibility of businesses that prepare meals. It was amazing to see all of the career possibilities within the industry here in Brazil!"

Coincidently, circling back to the sunny spaces question, Juliana Martins is looking for IHN students or graduates who are in Brazil!
Design, Develop & Build Solutions

Pictured above, Sofia Pistrila was captured teaching a Nutritional Symptomatology Pt II lecture to students mid-class. She is incredible at taking her extensive, real-world clinical experiences and sharing them with students in an assertive effort to prepare them for professional practice. She wants success among her future peers, and is known for delivering volumes of analytic information! She is a vocal advocate of an individual's right to personal health choices. Her health journey began 17 years ago, when choosing to abandon her engineering career, and enroll at IHN. When not teaching, consulting, or mentoring, Sofia can be found working the land at a friend's organic farm and tending to their beehives.

Sofia joined IHN's faculty in 2009—originally at IHN's Toronto campus, and now also teaches in our online program. She is the founder of Sofia Elena Health in Toronto and incorporates functional tests with complimentary therapies in her practice. Her clinical work is focused on solving chronic degenerative conditions and autoimmune diseases.

We asked Sofia what the IHN Family might not know about her:

"I grew up in an Eastern European university town with people of many different nationalities and cultures. Kids I played with spoke at least 5 languages. I speak 3 well, and I get by with the other 2. I think being exposed to many cultures and foods from an early age made me curious in life to travel and be adventurous in my culinary pursuits. As an engineer (my first profession) I lived and worked in four different countries where I immersed myself in the local culture and of course local culinary delights.

Despite my 17 years of engineering, which developed my critical and analytical thinking to the extreme, I have an artistic side. As a child I always had artistic inclinations, and for years I would invent and write stories and ornate them with graphics. Into my late teens I would organize shows for different occasions with friends and neighbours. Shows were full of poetry, singing and one main theatrical performance. Later I discovered the sewing machine and I got really good at it, so my artistic pursuits took the form of dressmaking. My most daring experience was sewing a graduation gown for a friend of mine! When I came to Canada, I started making clay pottery and continued with occasional dressmaking."

Join Sofia for a Nutritional Symptomatology Pt II refresher which provides plenty of opportunity to improve your protocol development abilities. It's always 50% off the regular course fee for all graduates.

Sessions are not recorded, so registrants should join us LIVE for real-time chatter! :)
