IN THE NEWS
Our members making headlines
| | A new study led by Terrence Liu, M.D., M.S., IHPI National Clinician Scholar, found that the ability to have an appointment with a doctor or other health care provider by video visit or telephone call improved access to care for people with low incomes in Michigan’s Medicaid expansion program. Nearly two-thirds (63%) of those who had a telehealth appointment in the past year said they received care that they could not or would not have gotten otherwise. | | | A U-M team led by Rebecca Hasson, Ph.D., associate professor of kinesiology, is using AI to make physical activity more accessible for children with autism. Building on their InPACT (Interrupting Prolonged Sitting with Activity) program, originally launched to promote short bursts of exercise in schools, the researchers adapted the initiative for home use during the pandemic. Now, with help from ChatGPT, they have rewritten instructions for over 130 exercise videos to better meet the needs of neurodivergent children—simplifying movements, enhancing clarity, and ensuring accessibility. The results of their work are published in Frontiers in Physiology. | | |
