The Institute named Allison Lin, M.D., M.Sc., assistant professor of psychiatry, and Michael Sjoding, M.D., M.Sc., assistant professor of internal medicine, as the 2021 recipients of the Policy Impact Award. Lin was recognized for her work improving access to substance use disorder treatment, and Sjoding for his work in identifying racial bias in medical technology. 
On May 19, the Institute, in partnership with AARP, hosted a webinar to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the National Poll on Healthy Aging (NPHA). A new study led by Lauren Gerlach, D.O., M.S., assistant professor of psychiatry, shows massive variations in which hospice patients actually get antipsychotics or benzodiazepines for end-of-life symptoms. And that variation has much more to do with which hospice agency they are being treated by, and much less to do with their actual medical condition.
