On October 15, a panel of experts discussed the law's origins, impacts and potential future in a free online University of Michigan (U-M) event. Watch the replay of the event below.

A new National Poll on Healthy Aging report authored by Antoinette Coe, Ph.D., PharmD, and Karen Farris, Ph.D., M.P.A., shows that most people over 50 haven't connected with a pharmacist to check for potential clashes among their prescription drugs, non-prescription drugs, and supplements, or the potential to save money by switching to lower-cost options.

Months after they first experienced COVID-19 symptoms, 1 in 4 Michigan residents with a confirmed case of coronavirus had not fully recovered from the illness, according to a new study led by Nancy Fleischer, Ph.D., M.P.H., associate professor of public health, that seeks to document Michiganders' experiences with the novel coronavirus.

The Latest

The number of cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in the U.S. has begun to rise after the curve was twice "flattened" by efforts to prevent the spread. Now that we know more about the coronavirus, this is the time to stay the course to prevent infections and buy time until vaccines are ready, says Howard Markel, M.D., Ph.D., a medical historian who has studied past pandemics.

A new study published in Health Affairs and led by Kao-Ping Chua, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor of pediatrics, looked at private insurer payments and out-of-pocket spending on 526 orphan drugs. Mean annual out-of-pocket spending for orphan drugs rose from $486 to $866 and was higher for children than adults.

A new study published by senior author Lona Mody, M.D., M.Sc., professor of internal medicine, details how three Michigan nursing homes limited the spread of the coronavirus within their walls after the first cases were diagnosed in that early peak state.
