Construction health and safety program report
The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training, and Skills Development (MLITSD) puts together a report for the Provincial Labour-Management Health and Safety Committee every month with an overview of events, court bulletins, and statistics. This report is generally available the first week of the month and is posted on the IHSA website.

The 2026–2027 MLITSD compliance campaigns begin on April 1 and include some new and familiar areas of focus.

Asbestos work reports available for online submission
MLITSD has launched a new Employer Notice Portal for submitting and managing health and safety notices, including the Notice of Asbestos Work Report. Employers can now complete and submit the Asbestos Work Report entirely online.

Proposed regulations related to issuing administrative penalties for select commercial and passenger offences in the Highway Traffic Act and the Towing and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act
Under the Highway Traffic Act and the Towing and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act, the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is responsible for compliance and monitoring activities.
The MTO is proposing regulations related to issuing administrative penalties for select commercial and passenger offences in these two acts.

Struck-by Awareness Week is April 20–24
IHSA is coordinating a week-long campaign that highlights hazard recognition, controls, and solutions to reduce struck-by incidents, which are a leading cause of critical injuries and fatalities in the sectors that IHSA serves. The 2026 Barrie Regional Labour-Management Mental Health Seminar is April 14 at 8 a.m. at the Peggy Hill Team Community Centre. This half-day event will provide many learning and networking opportunities.

On April 28, Canadians will observe the National Day of Mourning.
This day is dedicated to remembering and honouring those who have died, suffered an injury, or been stricken by illness while on the job or due to their work. In recognizing them, we reaffirm our commitment to continually improving health and safety in workplaces in Ontario and across the country.

Threads of Life supports the healing journey of families who have suffered from a workplace fatality, traumatic life-altering injury, or occupational disease.
Every year, Threads of Life hosts Steps for Life. This 5-km family walk educates the community, highlights the ripple effects of workplace tragedies, and shows how we can prevent these incidents.
IHSA is sponsoring seven walk locations in 2026 and is currently recruiting walkers and donations.

Health and Safety Professionals Canada mark Safety and Health Week 2026
Safety and Health Week is an annual opportunity to focus employers, workers, partners and the public on the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace, at home, and in the community. To raise awareness during the week of May 4–9, Health and Safety Professionals Canada (HSPC) is partnering with the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) and Threads of Life to offer free nation-wide programming on various aspects of safety and health for the public to participate in.
