2025–2026 compliance campaigns
| | | |
Construction
From April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, MLITSD construction inspectors are focusing on health and safety hazards related to residential construction. This encompasses single-family residential construction (including residential re-roofing) and multi-family residential construction.
Inspectors are looking at all activities on residential projects, with a particular emphasis on issues that have been leading to more events and injuries (e.g., falls from heights, struck-bys, and same-level slips, trips, and falls).
IHSA is working closely with the MLITSD to provide resources and expert advice throughout the campaign. Please visit our consulting page to connect with a consultant in your area.

Mining
From April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, MLITSD mining inspectors are focusing on health and safety hazards associated with slips, trips, and falls. To support this initiative, IHSA, Workplace Safety North (WSN), and the MLITSD collaborated to produce a webinar outlining the campaign’s industry focus and key areas of inspection. Additionally, IHSA and WSN highlighted available resources to assist employers in achieving compliance.

Specialized professional service
The MLITSD also has two specialized professional service campaigns in 2025–2026: worker exposure to chemical agents in the workplace and WHMIS training based on the amended Hazardous Products Regulations. Both the education, outreach, and awareness efforts and the focused inspections are ongoing from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026.
IHSA is highlighting the following resources to help stakeholders achieve compliance during the year-long campaigns:

Ensuring Ontario Land Surveyors operate under consistent and high standards of practice to provide reliable survey services
Surveying is the foundation of all land development, whether it is managing natural resources or expanding and redeveloping Ontario's communities. Government and industry rely on the information that surveyors provide to plan and build infrastructure, homes, and communities.
The Surveyors Act (R.S.O. 1990, c. S.29) has not substantially changed since 1987 and requires an update to attract new surveyors to the profession, reflect today's modern technologies, and support housing and infrastructure development. Changes are also required to provide the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors with greater oversight of the profession and to improve external and internal processes in a way that benefits the public.
Proposed changes to the Surveyors Act were introduced under Bill 27 on May 27, 2025. Regulatory amendments are needed to support these proposed changes.

Introduction of mobile commercial X-ray units for enhanced cargo inspection
Ontario's Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is introducing new technology to support commercial motor vehicle inspections.
MTO has acquired several mobile commercial X-ray machines to assist MTO officers by increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of cargo inspections, with a focus on detecting non-compliance related to dangerous goods and load security.
The MTO will deploy these X-ray units across the province. However, the use of this technology is not expected to increase inspection times. Drivers will be required to exit their vehicles during the scanning process.
