Fleet Safety Council news and events

FSC & PMTC joint letter on Automatic Speed Enforcement cameras


The Fleet Safety Council (FSC) and the Private Motor Truck Council of Canada (PMTC) have issued a joint letter to the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and the Office of the Premier.


Based on a motion at the FSC Annual General Meeting, held on October 23, 2025, the letter strongly urges the provincial government to reconsider its recent ban on automated speed enforcement (ASE) programs.

IHSA's Risk Assessment & Root Cause Workshop Resources


IHSA has published new resources based on our Risk Assessment and Root Cause Analysis workshops, designed for and by the industries we serve. These comprehensive resources help high-risk sectors identify potential hazards, evaluate risk, and develop effective solutions to prevent future incidents.


Resources include full workshop results and technical reports on critical topics such as yard safety and driver fatigue (general trucking), slips, trips, and falls (surface mining and aggregates), underground strikes (electrical utilities), and working at heights (residential roofing).

CVOR Collision Point Review Panel


Did you know that IHSA has a CVOR Review Panel? Once a submission is received, this panel meets to determine whether an incident was preventable or non-preventable. The panel is an unbiased, neutral, highly qualified third party and maintains complete confidentiality.

Regulations and Statutes in Force as of January 1, 2026


From the Office of the Premier, effective January 1, 2026, Ontario is implementing legislative and regulatory changes to improve labour mobility through "As of Right" frameworks and enhance public safety with stricter driving penalties.


The updates include focus on reducing administrative red tape for businesses and modernizing healthcare by streamlining professional registrations and expanding digital health record access. These broad measures aim to strengthen the provincial economy and improve worker protection across multiple sectors.

CRE-MSD launches new vibration hazard resources to boost MSD prevention


The Centre of Research Expertise for the Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorders (CRE-MSD), in collaboration with the Centre for Research in Occupational Safety and Health (CROSH), has new resources to help workplaces address vibration hazards. These posters and tools support awareness, assessment, and control measures under the MSD Prevention Guideline for Ontario.


Managing substance use and the workplace workshops in Ottawa and Toronto


In early 2026, the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction is hosting a series of workshops on preventing and reducing substance use in the workplace.

Regulatory proposal consultation period: Ontario Free Trade Mobility Act 


The Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation, and Trade (MEDJCT) has launched a 45-day consultation on a proposed draft regulation that, if approved, would enable mutual recognition for goods and services in Ontario under the Ontario Free Trade and Mobility Act, 2025 (OFTMA).  


MEDJCT is seeking stakeholder input to support the operationalization of mutual recognition and to identify potential risks, implementation challenges, and mitigation strategies for consideration.


The consultation period runs until January 28, 2026.

Truck News: Ontario shuts down Peel truck driving school


A Brampton truck driving school has been permanently closed by the Province of Ontario.


Local media first reported the closure of Peel Truck Driving School and Peel Driving School, which operate locations in Brampton and Guelph, Ont.


Both are listed on the MTO’s list of revoked driving schools.
