Nominations closed for Regional Driver and Safety Professional of the Year
The nomination period for the Regional Driver and Safety Professional of the Year awards has now closed. Chapter executives will review submissions over the summer.
Winners will be announced at the September chapter meetings and recognized at the FSC Annual Networking Event on Thursday, October 22, where the provincial winners will also be announced.
Thank you to everyone who submitted a nomination.

IHSA training sessions: January to May 2026
From January to May 2026, we’ve trained 25,747 people in 3,020 instructor-led courses at our facilities and workplaces across Ontario. Instructors with hands-on experience teach these sessions. They understand the realities of high-risk work because they’ve done it themselves.

Supporting mental health and suicide prevention
IHSA is raising awareness about mental health in Ontario's construction industry by highlighting that suicide rates are significantly higher than traumatic workplace fatalities.

Ontario driver licensing update
The MTO is introducing updates to driver licensing requirements aimed at improving road safety, strengthening program integrity, and reducing fraud.
Effective Wednesday, July 1, 2026, new rules will limit recognized foreign driving experience from non-reciprocal jurisdictions and require additional testing and waiting periods for Class G applicants. Further changes coming on Friday, January 1, 2027, will require new Class A drivers to hold a full Ontario Class G licence for at least six months before completing their road test.

CVSA releases 2026 Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative results
The 2026 Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative (HTAI) brought together 56
jurisdictions across North America to raise awareness and educate drivers, carriers, and the public on recognizing and reporting human trafficking.
The effort included inspections, outreach events, and training, reaching thousands of individuals and distributing educational materials widely. During the initiative, nearly 39,000 commercial vehicles were inspected, with 42 unauthorized passengers identified— highlighting the important role of the transportation industry in detecting potential trafficking activity

Operation Safe Driver Week 2026
CVSA’s Operation Safe Driver Week, which runs from July 12 to 18, 2026, is a North
America-wide initiative focused on improving driver behaviour through education and targeted traffic enforcement.
Law enforcement will monitor both commercial and passenger vehicle drivers for unsafe actions, such as speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving. The focus in 2026 is reckless, careless, and dangerous driving. The campaign aims to reduce preventable crashes and make roads safer for everyone.
