Keeping Your Promise

IHSA is proud to be your partner in creating safer and healthier workplaces. As a trusted resource in health and safety training and education, we provide accessible, comprehensive resources that are tailored to meet the needs of the construction, transportation, and electrical utilities sectors. We also offer specific resources for small businesses—which make up the majority of IHSA’s member firms—that make prioritizing workplace health and safety easier.

We believe that every Ontario worker should return home to their loved ones at the end of the workday. Our Keep Your Promise campaign reminds workers about the many reasons why they should prioritize health and safety on the jobsite.

Falls Awareness Week 2025

From May 5 - 9, IHSA will join workplaces across Ontario to promote Falls Awareness Week (FAW).

FAW is part of a campaign to prevent falls, which is one of the leading causes of death and critical injuries in the construction industry. Fall Injuries by the numbers:

  • 21% of all lost-time injury claims in construction were due to falls
  • Falls from ladders were the leading cause of falls-related deaths in construction
  • 29% of fatal falls from heights were among self-employed workers/business owners.

In support of this event, IHSA has developed resources such as safety talks, forms, checklists, articles, advisories, and posters. These resources can help employers develop site-specific WAH training and educate their workers on how to protect themselves from fall hazards.

Training Requirements Chart

Training gives workers the knowledge to recognize the hazards they face and do their jobs safely. It also helps employers fulfil their duty to protect the health and safety of their workers.

This chart compiles all of the training required by Ontario’s health and safety legislation (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act) for different types of jobs and the hazards that workers may encounter.

Arkansas House Bill 1745

Arkansas House Bill 1745, now known as Act 605, took effect on April 15, 2025. The Act outlines specific requirements regarding drivers' licenses, work permits, and language proficiency for foreign truck drivers operating within the state.

It is important to note that international commerce is not classified as "work" within the United States. Domestic movements, which are restricted for Canadian drivers and carriers, are considered work and are not permitted.

The intent of Act 605 is not to target Canadian truck drivers engaged in legitimate international commerce. Canadian drivers participating in cross-border transportation activities are permitted to continue operating under existing international commerce regulations.

Be prepared for Emergency Preparedness Week

Safety starts with being prepared and having a plan. All Ontarians have a part to play in preparing for emergencies. Emergency Preparedness Week (EP Week) is a national event that educates communities across the province about actions people can take to prepare for emergency situations. This annual event has taken place for over 25 years and is traditionally held during the first full week of May.

Aligning with Ontario’s Provincial Emergency Management Strategy and Action Plan and it’s goal to keep Ontario in a state of constant readiness and preparedness, the province’s theme for 2025 is “Plan for every season.” This theme reflects the unique challenges facing Ontario on a seasonal basis and the opportunities to practice emergency preparedness throughout the year. Ontario’s theme complements the national theme released by Public Safety Canada.
