FSC Southwestern and Central chapters announce joint spring meeting

Giant Tiger to host FSC Eastern Chapter end-of-season meeting
Join the FSC Eastern (Ottawa) Chapter for a special end‑of‑year meeting and networking event hosted by Giant Tiger in Johnstown, Ontario.
Taking place on Friday, June 5, attendees will enjoy a facility tour, member equipment displays, and meaningful networking with industry leaders and enforcement partners including the Ministry of Transportation, Ontario Provincial Police, and Ottawa Police Services.

FSC Conference opens registration
The FSC Conference Committee is excited to announce that registration is open for the 35th annual event. It will take place on Friday, October 23 in Brampton, Ontario.
This year's keynote speaker is Dr. Johanna Pagonis, CEO of Sinogap Solutions Inc. and author, who will discuss how to lead with clarity, courage, and control.

Driver and Safety Professional of the Year nominations
Nominations for the FSC Driver of the Year and Safety Professional of the Year awards are officially open! Submissions are already coming in, and the FSC looks forward to recognizing outstanding individuals who demonstrate excellence and leadership in fleet safety.
All regional winners will be eligible for the provincial awards, sponsored by TruckRight, which will be awarded at the Annual Networking Reception on Thursday, October 22.
Nominations are open until Tuesday, June 30.

Discover IHSA’s new workplace mental health webinar series and free, practical toolkits designed to help Ontario’s high‑risk trades prevent psychological harm before crisis occurs. These resources equip leaders, occupational health and safety professionals, and labour partners with workplace‑ready strategies for mental health, substance use, suicide prevention, and fit for duty—moving organizations from awareness to action. Reminder: International Roadcheck 2026
From May 12 to 14, enforcement personnel throughout North America will inspect commercial motor vehicles and commercial motor vehicle drivers for compliance with vehicle, cargo, and driver regulatory requirements as part of International Roadcheck—a 72-hour inspection, enforcement, and data-collection initiative from the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance.
This year, the focus for drivers is electronic logging device tampering, falsification, or manipulation and the focus for vehicles is cargo securement.

MTO releases the 2022 Ontario Road Safety Annual Report
The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has released the 2022 Ontario Road Safety Annual Report, which provides a comprehensive and validated overview of road safety outcomes across the province.
Preliminary reports for 2023 and 2024 and a new road safety highlights and trends page offer early insights into emerging patterns and reinforce Ontario’s commitment to transparency and continuous road safety improvement.

Changes coming to residency requirements for driver's licensing
The MTO is changing Ontario’s driver licensing requirements to reduce fraud and better align Ontario with other Canadian jurisdictions as part of the Fighting Delays, Building Faster Act, 2025.
Starting May 11, anyone applying for a Class G/M driver’s licence (DL) or upgrading to a commercial class (A, B, C, D, E, or F) DL will be required to answer specific questions regarding residency.
DL holders who apply for a commercial class DL upgrade must answer questions and provide supporting documents to verify residency, legal presence, and work eligibility.

Federal government reviewing safety rules in high‑risk sectors
The federal government has launched a review of federal labour laws that could significantly reshape health and safety requirements in high‑risk, federally regulated sectors.
Proposed updates to the Canada Labour Code may introduce stronger protections around fatigue, psychological safety, artificial intelligence use, and climate‑related risks—impacting industries such as transportation, banking, and courier services.

Regulatory proposal: Modernizing Ontario's framework for power-assisted bicycles (e-bikes)
The MTO is proposing to update and modernize the definition of power-assisted bicycles (also known as e-bikes) in Ontario through a new regulation. The proposal is intended to enhance road user safety by ensuring Ontario's rules reflect the varying types of electric vehicles.
The proposal is open for comment until Monday, June 8.

Canada mark's Safety and Health Week 2026
Safety and Health Week is an annual opportunity for employers, workers, partners, and the public to focus on the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace, at home, and in the community. To raise awareness during the week of May 4 to 9, Health and Safety Professionals Canada is partnering with the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety and Threads of Life to offer free nation-wide programming on various aspects of safety and health. These virtual and in-person events are open to everyone.
