FSC provincial award winners to be announced at FSC conference networking reception!
Recipients of the FSC Provincial Driver and Safety Professional of the Year awards, sponsored by TruckRight, will be announced during the FSC Annual Conference networking reception on October 23, 2025. Chosen from among the regional chapter winners, two individuals will be given the provincial titles—along with an embroidered leather jacket, a crystal trophy, and a $2,500 cash prize.

MTO introduces mobile commercial X-ray units
As part of ongoing efforts to enhance safety and compliance on Ontario’s highways, the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has introduced new technology to support commercial motor vehicle inspections.
In a memo to industry stakeholders, the MTO announced the acquisition of several mobile commercial X-ray machines. These units will assist MTO officers by increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of cargo inspections, with a focus on detecting non-compliance related to dangerous goods and load security.

MTO suspension letters sent to drivers suspected of taking "dishonest" training
The MTO has mailed out suspension letters to truck drivers who the province believes “dishonestly” obtained their Class A licences during testing or training.
The letters state, "Due to irregularities discovered during an audit of your test provider, the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) cannot verify that your A/Z knowledge and road tests were conducted to Ontario standards”.

CTV News: Police say transport driver using his phone tried to switch seats with passenger
A 27-year-old commercial motor vehicle driver has been charged this week after trying to switch seats with a passenger and hide in his truck—while the vehicle was still moving and while using a cell phone.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police, a witness reported the incident. Officers then located the original driver hiding in the sleeper berth of the vehicle. Further inspection revealed multiple violations related to the driver’s daily logs and inspection reports.

ESDC warns employers: misclassification is illegal
Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) issued a warning to the trucking industry, reminding employers that misclassifying workers under the Driver Inc. model is illegal and will have consequences.
In a video titled “Misclassification is illegal,” ESDC’s labour program outlines the growing problem of employee misclassification in road transportation and stresses that non-compliance with the Canada Labour Code will not be tolerated.

Transportation of dangerous goods (TDG) safety awareness kits from Transport Canada are aimed at four specific audiences: first responders, communities/municipalities, industry, and the general public. The kits include:
- Emergency preparedness and response information
- Protective Direction No. 36
- Safety advisories (e.g., lithium batteries)
- Bulletins
- CANUTEC
- And much more!
The kits are updated regularly and are available online.
