FSC Annual Regional & Provincial Awards


Congratulations to all recipients of the FSC Annual Regional Awards, who were recognized at September FSC meetings.


All regional award recipients are eligible to be considered for the Provincial Awards, sponsored by TruckRight, which will be presented at the FSC's 35th annual Educational Conference networking reception on Thursday, October 22, 2026.

The FSC is excited to launch a new provincial membership program, available at both individual and corporate membership levels. Designed to support participation across Ontario, this new membership option will help members stay connected with chapter activities, industry updates, and networking opportunities throughout the province.

Strengthening prevention through partnership


IHSA recently hosted a meeting of the Provincial Labour-Management Health and Safety Committee for Construction (PLMHSC), bringing together workers, employers, government, and system partners to discuss key health and safety priorities.


The collaborative discussions focused on strengthening prevention efforts and improving safety outcomes across Ontario.

New IHSA products and resources released in 2026  


IHSA has released a range of new health and safety resources for 2026, including guidance on workplace mental health, fatigue management, heat stress, struck-by prevention, and much more. New safety talk videos and awareness materials are also available to support safer workplaces across the transportation, construction, aggregates, and electrical utilities sectors.

IHSA's 2025 Annual Report


Day in, day out, the staff and leadership at IHSA work to improve the health and safety of Ontario workers—by providing training, developing new resources, and collaborating with our many public-sector partners and industry stakeholders.


Each year, the effectiveness of those efforts are documented in IHSA's Annual Report.


Available now, the 2025 Annual Report looks at how IHSA supported key prevention initiatives and promoted continuous health and safety improvement in the construction, aggregates, electrical utilities, and transportation sectors.

The 988 Suicide Crisis Helpline offers free, confidential support 24/7 for anyone experiencing a mental health crisis or who may be concerned about someone else. Share these awareness resources with your team to help promote mental health, reduce stigma, and ensure people know where to turn when support is needed.

Ontario proposes enhanced truck driver training standards


The Ontario government is developing a new standardized entry-level training curriculum for commercial truck drivers to help ensure consistent, high-quality training across the province. Proposed enhancements include more than 103 hours of training and an additional focus on topics such as fatigue management, rural and northern driving, human trafficking awareness, and air brake usage.




 

Rail safety is a year-round responsibility


While Rail Safety Week has passed, the importance of safe behaviours around rail infrastructure remains as relevant as ever. Metrolinx and Operation Lifesaver have developed a variety of educational resources for the public and professional drivers, emphasizing the need to obey signs and signals, use designated crossings, stay clear of tracks, and remain alert at rail crossings. These simple actions can help prevent incidents and keep everyone safe.

New CBSA guide supports commercial importers


The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has launched a new online guide to help businesses navigate the commercial importing process. The resource collects key information on import requirements, duties and taxes, CARM registration, compliance obligations, and other essential steps for importing goods into Canada.

Legislative change proposal: construction hygiene requirements


The Construction Legislative Review Committee (CLRC) is seeking feedback on proposed amendments to the hygiene provisions of Ontario's construction projects regulation. While focused on the construction sector, the proposed changes may be of interest to employers and safety professionals across industries as workplace hygiene, worker welfare, and health protection continue to be important occupational health and safety considerations.


Members are encouraged to review the proposal and provide feedback before the December 7, 2026 deadline. Organizations can submit comments or indicate that the proposal was reviewed with no comments.

CVSA releases 2026 International Roadcheck results


The 2026 International Roadcheck resulted in more than 54,000 vehicle and driver inspections across North America. While most vehicles and drivers passed inspection, brake system defects, cargo securement issues, and driver qualification violations remained among the most common reasons for out-of-service orders.


The results are an important reminder for fleets to maintain strong inspection, maintenance, cargo securement, and compliance programs. Review the full results to see key trends and findings from this year's enforcement initiative.
