2019 Unicameral Session One-Third Over
IIAN Workers Compensation Bill Passes
First Round Floor Vote Unanimously
Morning floor debate and afternoon public hearings are in full swing in the Nebraska legislature as of February 21, the 29th day of this year's 90-day session.
LB 139, IIAN's new bill to address the problem of independent contractors who do not cover themselves for workers compensation, passed its first round of debate last week, and was advanced unanimously to "Select File", or second round of voting.  " This is a huge step forward on our top 2019 legislative priority," commented IIAN legislative representative Jim Cavanaugh.  "Thanks to all who helped us on this important issue. We hope to see LB139 back (up) on the Select File agenda soon."  Read more about LB 139
and  how it will benefit contractors, hiring parties, and insurance carriers in Nebraska.
IIAN's Legislative committee  is actively watching 32 bills impacting insurance agents, consumers, or the industry.  IIAN supports LB 370, which would double Nebraska's minimum auto liability limits; the bill was heard on February 19 by the Banking, Commerce & Insurance Committee, which took no action to advance it.  The Committee also heard testimony and advanced LB 116 for first round consideration; it would authorize electronic delivery of insurance policies and billing information to insureds.  Click here    to see Jim Cavanaugh's Unicameral Update for the past week.
Check www.iian.org every Monday for Jim's "Week In Review" report for updated status on all of the bills IIAN is watching, including IIAN's position.
