IIBA Denver Chapter
Message from the Chapter Board
by Susan Futey, CBAP, ECBA, VP Membership
As we prepare for the holiday season and look back on 2017, I want todecorated_wreath.jpg recap the fall events and highlight how you, the chapter members, have helped these events succeed.

Feedback
We asked you for feedback via comment cards at the end of each chapter event. Thanks for providing valuable and actionable feedback. We asked, "What is the primary reason you attended today's event?" Your top two answers were "Presentation Topic" and "Conversation with other attendees".

We hear you!

Presentation Topic

Analysis in an Agile Environment has been a hot topic lately and we plan to have future topics with that theme. If you were not able to attend our recent events, you can read up on the presentation topics in the Agile Extension to the BABOK Guide v2 found on IIBA.org.

Agile Techniques, specifically Story Mapping and Behaviour Driven Development were reviewed and discussed in several small group breakout sessions at the September Event. Agile Business Analysis at Multiple Planning Horizons was the November Event topic and the small groups learned how to apply the agile principles during strategic, initiative, and delivery planning. See more about these Events on the chapter website.

Conversation with other attendees
Food is available at events beginning at 5:30 pm providing time to network and have conversations with peers over a light meal. The event agenda always includes a Group Q&A session before the main topic allowing us to learn from each other given our different experiences. The enthusiastic conversations during these fall events were highlights of each session.

November Meeting Recap
by Debbie Rasor, CBAP, Newsletter Editor

At the November chapter meeting, Grant Warden continued our
series on Agile. We learned about agile planning horizons from the BABOK Agile extension v2. A planning horizon represents a view of work within an organization with a level of granularity appropriate to the planning time frame and the nature of the feedback loops. The  Agile Extension defines three horizons: Strategy, Initiative, and Delivery. After a brief lecture, we split into three groups. Each group discussed one of the planning horizons then presented how the team members could use the horizon in their own work.
Thanks to our Volunteers!
by Susan Futey, CBAP, VP Membership

This month, I would like to recognize the team of volunteers thankyou_basket_hdr.jpgon the Chapter Membership Committee: Alan Cavin, CBAP; Evelene Kirby, and Peter Hanson, PMI-PBA.  These three individuals have volunteered their time and effort to coordinate the registration process at the start of each chapter event. Next time you see Alan or Evey or Pete at the registration table, be sure to say hello and thank them for their service!

The Denver IIBA Chapter is dedicated to providing members with various resources to enhance their knowledge and expertise. One resource is our mentor program, which allows individual members to partner with each other with the goal of sharing ideas on strategies, techniques, issues, or anything else that influences their roles as Business Analysts.

We can each benefit from collaboration and sharing with other members. If you would like more information on how to participate, please contact Heidi for more details.
