IJSS Announces Transition in Leadership

Charles Branch, MD, Editor-in-Chief
In 2007, ISASS published the inaugural issue of the International Journal of Spine Surgery (IJSS). At its helm was Editor-in-Chief Hansen Yuan, MD, who drove the initiative in creating and launching this new journal focused on advancing technology and techniques in spine surgery. Since that time, the IJSS has not only grown but thrived in the world of scholarly spine surgery journals. After these past 14 successful years, Dr Yuan has decided to retire and pass this important role on to a successor who can continue to drive the journal forward.

In response to Dr. Yuan’s decision to step down, ISASS convened an Editor-in-Chief Search Committee that identified and considered several highly qualified candidates. ISASS is pleased to announce that the committee has appointed Charles Branch, MD, as the next IJSS editor-in-chief.

Dr. Branch is well-versed in academia and scholarship, currently serving as the Eben Alexander, Jr., Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery and the Executive Director of the Spine Service Line at Wake Forest Baptist Health in North Carolina. He has an impressive background in scholarly publishing, most notably serving as EIC of The Spine Journal from 2004 to 2009.

ISASS expresses its deep thanks to Dr. Yuan for his long-standing commitment to advancing spine surgery worldwide. ISASS also congratulates and welcomes Dr. Branch to his new role and looks forward to helping him establish a successful tenure as the IJSS editor-in-chief.
