July 19, 2023 | Clark Kaericher, Senior VP of Government Affairs for the Illinois Chamber, spoke with Jim Sams of Claims Journal on the Illinois Supreme Court's decision to not vacate its 4-3 ruling on violations of the state's Biometric Privacy Act. "It’s not unusual for large national employers to be uninformed about the passage of “obscure state laws,” he said. "Some 1,500 Illinois employers have been sued under BIPA."

The attendees were eager to hear the fireside chat from Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza and IL Chamber Board Secretary Kelly Edwards.
We had the honor to welcome, G. Joseph Cosenza with Inland Real Estate as our keynote speaker this year. Joe discussed “how to teach real estate to a 4th grader" and finished with a Q&A segment with the audience.

Stan Kaminski, a recently retired partner from Duane Morris LLP, and Dakota Newton, an associate at Duane Morris, gave an update on local taxes. Brad Wilhelmson of KPMG reviewed and led a discussion of the implications of the recent changes to the Investment Partnership definition in the Illinois Income Tax Act.

Aug. 4, 2023 | Executive Director of the Infrastructure Council, Andrew Cunningham was able to attend the CREATE Program's summer civic briefing and tour in Chicago. CREATE hosted various stakeholders, including state and local elected officials at the sites. The focus of the tour was on how the CREATE Program is tackling the largest chokepoint in the Chicagoland region, the 75th Street Corridor Improvement Project. Aug. 11, 2023 | Illinois Chamber Senior VP of Government Affairs, Clark Kaericher and Infrastructure Council Executive Director, Andrew Cunningham were able to attend a St. Louis Regional Freight Tour hosted by the Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis (TRRA) and the St. Louis Regional Freightway. Points of interest on the tour included the St. Louis multimodal freight yard expansion at Madison Yard in Venice, Merchants Bridge (reopened in Fall 2022), and America's Central Port intermodal improvements. July 7, 2023 | CPKC, a member of the Illinois Chamber's Infrastructure Council, recently completed a historic combination that creates single-line rail services from Illinois to interior Mexico. Canadian Pacific has long provided direct container services from its hubs in Schiller Park and Bensenville, both close to O'Hare Airport, to the ports of Montreal and Vancouver. In April, CP combined with Kansas City Southern and has now launched their daily Mexico Midwest Express service between Chicago and Mexico City. Read More
