Connecting the Cash: Illinois Presidential Primary
With the March 15th Primary Elections in Illinois less than three weeks away, Presidential candidates are beginning to make their presence known across the state. Illinois donors have already shown support for all major candidates, but at vastly different levels.
Hillary Clinton leads in both overall available funds (a cool $187.9 Million) with $8 Million in Illinois support.
Bernie Sanders, the only candidate without an active Super PAC, still has $96.3 Million on hand, with $752,885 in donations from Illinois residents.
Marco Rubio comes in second with Illinois donors, with $68.8 Million in total funds,
and $3.8 Million from Illinois. $2.6 Million of that money comes from local hedge fund manager Ken Griffin, who first voiced his support for Rubio in December of 2015.
Ted Cruz, who boasts an impressive six committees with balances over $1 Million, has $100.3 Million on hand, with only
$1.19 Million coming from Illinoi
s. John Kasich has $15.3 Million in total committee funds, with $536,826 sourced from Illinois.
Donald Trump has $27.2 Million on hand, with only $47,812 coming from Illinois. In fact, a member of the Ricketts family (owners of the Cubs) is funding a Super PAC
opposing Trump to the tune of $3 Million. He'll be fine though, remember -
he doesn't need anybody's money!
