A MESSAGE FROM ILG'S EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR | |
Dear Friends,
September has been a busy month for ILG as we continued to push forward towards California's climate goals, strengthened connections between current and future leaders, and focused on uplifting and supporting our communities.
We hosted and attended several events this month, giving us a chance to enjoy some face-time and connect with a lot of you. Between the CA Special Districts Association, the League of California Cities (congrats to our Beacon Award winners!), and the American Planning Association conferences, we were able to reach local government leaders from all over the state. Our Public Sector Workforce Forum brought several of our Sacramento area partners together to share information on how to grow and diversify the public workforce in our area, and our annual ILG board retreat provided a fantastic opportunity to check in and strategize with our amazing board and partners from all corners of California.
We're keeping up the momentum in October with several exciting trainings and opportunities to grow and network. We're starting things out Oct. 4 with Meeting Mastery, ILG's new meeting facilitation and design training. We'll also be in Indian Wells for the California Economic Summit, and Lake Tahoe for the Municipal Management Association of Northern CA Annual Conference.
We also have additional programs and resources in the works - stay tuned for announcements about some new projects tied to our recent Workforce Accelerator Fund WIOA Grant and our new High Road Training Partnerships Grant for Registered Apprenticeships, as well as several webinars. We’ll be announcing new ethics training resources as well in the coming weeks..
As always, it's a pleasure and a privilege to serve our local government community, and to work alongside so many visionaries and leaders.
In gratitude and community,
Erica L. Manuel
CEO & Executive Director

ILG Secures Grant To Improve Diversity In & Access To Local Government Careers
ILG is excited to announce a new workforce initiative called IDEA: Improving Diversity, Equity and Access to Local Government Jobs. IDEA is an 18-month grant that will allow ILG to help public sector employers develop solutions to hiring and retention issues by providing resources, a supportive community of practice and a way to plan collaborative actions that will make it easier for underrepresented communities to learn about, compete for, and thrive in local government careers.
The goal is to showcase local agency workplace innovation and success, while also updating some of local government’s most outdated hiring practices so they are more accessible to and inclusive of historically underrepresented communities. We want to do that by building partnerships between local agency leaders and diverse communities and by collaborating on the development of new workforce strategies that attract the next generation of local agency leaders. Stay tuned for more information about IDEA and how your agency can get involved!
Reach out to Melissa Kuehne at mkuehne@ca-ilg.org if you have resources to share or would like to join our pubic sector workforce community of practice.
