5 Ways To Save A Dying Industry

Over the past 40 years, the  number of U.S. hospitals declined by 12 percent, from more than 7,100 in 1975 to 6,200 in 2017, according to the latest American Hospital Association survey. And, yet, despite shuttering nearly 1,000 facilities, hospitals remain the nation's largest source of healthcare spending, accounting for  $1.1 trillion annually (or 33% of all national healthcare expenditures). Much of that money goes to the  7.5 million people employed by hospitals who, together, make up nearly half the nation's healthcare workforce. 

These statistics tell the story of an industry struggling to right-size its workforce, bring down costs and, ultimately, achieve more with less. If there's a silver liningit's that we've seen this story play out before in another industry. The Medicaid Promoting Interoperability Program will end in 2021. In order to assist with your planning, below is a table of key dates for this program.

Submit Patient Volume for Pre-Approval 
for Medicaid EHR Program Year 2019  
 
ILHITREC encourages Illinois providers participating in the eMIPP program to submit patient volume for pre-approval for the Medicaid EHR Incentive Program for the 2019 Program Year as soon as possible to avoid any delays in attestation. Use the format below to provide the following information via email to   [email protected]:

  • Payee TIN = _________________
  • Payee NPI __________________
  • Group or individual numbers?  _______________
  • Provider type:  (physician, hospital, dentist)  _________________
  • Selecting a Date Range: (Select Calendar Year 2018 only for Pre-Approval)
     - Date Range: Calendar Year, any 90-day period in 2018 ___________
     - Can not use the same date or overlap date used for Program Year 2018
