Myles Flood | Co-Owner & CEO | LfL Worldwide Chauffeur Services

Tell us a little bit about LfL Worldwide Chauffeur Services:

LfL Worldwide Chauffeur Services is based out of Dublin, Ireland. We primarily serve

the entire island of Ireland, and also have several key outposts in the U.S. where we

see a lot of client activity, particularly in Chicago, Indianapolis, and other parts of the

Midwest.

We’re considered mid-size by Irish standards, with 11 employees including my wife

Lorraine and me, and we own 8 vehicles. We also work with 9 or 10 core independent

operators when demand surges. Our fleet is predominantly made up of Mercedes

models — mostly executive mini-vans because SUVs aren’t really a thing here in

Europe like they are in the U.S.

We specialize in corporate transportation, high-end executive travel, and event services.

Regular people don’t tend to use private car services in Ireland — it’s mostly

businesspeople and high-net-worth individuals. We also see a lot of demand tied to the

tech sector, given how big Ireland is as a hub for U.S. companies.

Lorraine and I started LfL 18 years ago, and we’re still a family business today —

owned and operated by us. It’s a 24/7/365 kind of commitment — really more a vocation

than a job.

How did you, personally, end up in the transportation industry?

I worked in the grocery business for years — at Superquinn, which was the most high-

end grocery chain in the world before Whole Foods came along. I started there during

school and stayed into my 30s, learning everything about customer service. I even had

the opportunity to buy a store, which I did for a while, but ultimately realized it wasn’t for

me.

At that point, Lorraine and I started a limousine company focused on retail customers —

weddings, nights out, Rolls Royces, limousines — you name it. Over time, we

transitioned fully into the corporate market, and here we are today.

It’s been a journey built on hard work, resilience, and a real passion for looking after

people.

What has been your experience as an ILLBA member?

Joining ILLBA has been brilliant for us. Being based in Ireland, we don’t have any

transportation shows or associations like you all do in the U.S., so organizations like the

ILLBA are crucial for building connections and staying tapped into the industry.

We do a lot of business with clients in Illinois and Wisconsin, and having that name

recognition, that credibility, helps a lot — especially when you are handling international

work. The backlink from the ILLBA site to ours even helps with SEO, which is an added

bonus.

In my opinion, if you’re doing any kind of business in Illinois and you’re not an ILLBA

member, you are missing out. It’s an easy, effective way to be part of the community and

support the industry that supports you. Plus, the networking opportunities are invaluable

— your network really is your net worth in this business.

Fun fact: Jim Luff gave us our very first affiliate job from the U.S., back when he was

GM of The Limousine Scene. That connection helped us realize the potential in

international affiliate work, and we’ve never looked back.

Any predictions, hopes, or ambitions for the future of our industry?

The industry always seems to face a big challenge every five years — financial crashes,

COVID, economic fluctuations — and I think we might be heading into another tough

stretch. My advice to everyone would be to stay as liquid as possible and not

overextend yourself financially right now. Let’s see how things level out with the

transition happening in the U.S., and be cautious before making big moves.

Long term, though, I’m optimistic. This is and always will be a people business.

Relationships matter more than anything else. No other industry trusts its “competitors”

to care for their customers like ours does. If we keep that spirit alive — of collaboration,

trust, and community — we’ll always find a way forward.

Kennedy rehabilitation update: Week 9

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that the rehabilitation of the Kennedy Expressway (Interstate 90/94) from the Edens Expressway (I-94) junction to Ohio Street continued to progress the week of May 12. The following are highlights completed during the week:

Week of May 12

  • Structural concrete and steel repairs on bridge piers and concrete beams under various bridges continues.
  • Painting of structural members of various bridges.
  • Saw-cutting, removal, preparation and placement of concrete pavement patches at various locations continues.
  • Bridge deck joint removal, forming concrete and placement continues.
  • Repairs of the retaining wall along the expressway and the Chicago Transit Authority’s Blue Line continues.
  • Latex concrete deck pours continue.

As a reminder, through the duration of the project the reversible express lanes will remain open in the outbound direction, with two mainline outbound lanes closed at a time. During the first stage, the reversible mid-gate entrance and exits will be closed, with traffic in the express lanes unable to exit until the Edens Expressway at Foster Avenue. Drivers going to I-90 or O’Hare International Airport from downtown Chicago must stay on the mainline Kennedy and not the express lanes. This configuration is expected to remain in place until mid-July.

Global Business Travel Impact and Outlook Due to Recent U.S. Government Actions

Source: GBTA (Global Business Travel Association) Poll

Global Business Travel in a Changing Landscape

Beginning in early 2025, the U.S. government began pursuing actions that have potential implications for business travel. This includes imposing significant tariffs on imported products, U.S. entry restrictions for travelers from specific countries, cross-border policies and decreased business travel for federal employees ─ in addition to resulting advisories against travel to the U.S. from several countries. Any of these developments could dampen business travel.

Further heightening the risk is a growing concern that these actions could ultimately trigger a recession.

The GBTA recently conducted a global poll of business travel professionals worldwide about the expected impact of these actions and their subsequent outlook for 2025.
