Show You Care, Be Aware

Jonathan Meersman | Owner & Lead Chauffeur | Luxury SUV Rides

Tell us a little bit about Luxury SUV Rides:

Based in Milwaukee, Luxury SUV Rides provides door-to-door chauffeured black car transportation services in Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. We exclusively run SUV’s, and specialize in providing professional service with a personal touch for every customer. As a private owner, I work as the lead chauffeur and point of contact, and currently operate with 5 employees and 10 or so IO’s.

Luxury SUV Rides operates at a very high level of professionalism. I have always been committed to the idea of quality over quantity, and I think that shows in the services we are providing. All our chauffeurs work in the classic black suit and tie (unless the client requests something different, of course) and we offer elevated experiences across the board with absolute discretion and a nod to luxury. For example, I own two newer Escalades — which is pretty rare in Milwaukee — and I’ve upgraded them with integrated screens enabled with live programming, ESPN, etc. I’ve just ordered two new 2025 Escalades as well. I want the people traveling with us to have every option they might ever consider wanting.

How did you, personally, end up in the transportation industry?

I founded Luxury SUV Rides in 2017 as a sole proprietor, switched to a single member LLC in 2020, and then in 2023 became an S-Corp. My first vehicle was an SUV, a Suburban, which I felt was the most versatile option. If someone requests a sedan, you can always put them in an SUV, but not really the other way around. And defining that early niche for myself has served me well as we’ve continued to grow. I find the more specific vehicles are in less demand — special occasions, weekends only, etc. — and what we’re really aiming for is consistency and quality of experience.

What has been your experience as an ILLBA member?

We’ve been a member for just about a year — I joined at the 2023 Great Lakes Transportation Show after serving on the New Operator Bootcamp panel. I attended several sessions while I was there, and was impressed by how many new ideas were presented. The experience allowed me to connect with operators I only knew by reputation at that point, and now we have active working relationships. We all need each other.

Any predictions, hopes, or ambitions for the future of our industry?

Companies that grow too large that they lose the personal touch are missing the point. Staying close to the business, continuing to answer the phone — there are opportunities there for a level of service people can trust, and which they will continue to come back for again and again.

As Global Cities Feel The Strain Of Overtourism, What Makes Chicago Immune?

The post-COVID-19 travel surge seems to have reached a boiling point in Europe this year. In Barcelona, locals shot water guns at tourists in protest of a visitor surge that has sent housing costs skyrocketing. Venice implemented a new five-euro fee for all day trippers, and in Amsterdam, lawmakers placed a ban on the building of new hotels, amid tourism growth so significant that it already spawned an ad campaign asking visitors to simply not come.

Chicago, though, hasn’t had this problem. Despite being a marquee American destination in much the same way these cities are for Europe, visitor numbers here still haven’t returned to pre-pandemic levels. And, instead of gently dissuading would-be sightseers, the city is investing heavily in trying to attract tourists, especially from abroad

So what’s the difference?

Chicago E-scooter Riders Face Serious Injuries And No One's Tracking How Often They're Hurt

Dr. David Trotter, who runs the emergency department at Advocate Illinois Masonic, said he’s seen an uptick in traumas related to e-scooters the last two years.

The number of e-scooters on Chicago’s streets has steadily increased since the city introduced them in 2019. More than 3.7 million trips were recorded on rental e-scooters between mid-2022 and late 2023, according to city data, compared with 1.3 million rides between 2019 and 2020.

But the number of people injured in e-scooter crashes in Chicago remains unclear. The city doesn’t track the data, according to the Chicago Department of Transportation, and the companies that operate rental scooters don’t provide local data. E-scooter users like Ching and experts say more people are getting injured, and the city and companies should do more to address rider safety.

Spending Kids Inheritance And Boys II Zen Trips Are The Trends To Watch In 2025

For those who happen to be pondering the topic, Booking.com has some predictions.

The online booking platform recently commissioned research among a sample of adults who plan to travel for business or leisure in the next 12 to 24 months. In total, about 1,006 respondents from the US were polled. Based on those answers, Booking.com has come up with its forecast for travel 2025.

The high-level takeaway?

“Travelers will be rewriting their playbook in 2025, defying the rules of conventional getaways, and forging new connections with themselves, their loved ones, those they meet along the way, as well as the destinations they visit,” say the experts at Booking.com.
