We are excited to announce that our outstanding student interns from East China Normal University have gained practical work experience at the IMBeR IPO-China. We congratulate them on a fruitful internship journey! Let's take a closer look at their achievements and takeaways.
** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** Best Intern Award ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** **
Qianmeng Qi - As a graduate student majoring in journalism and communication, I am thrilled to work as an intern at IMBeR in the first half of this year. During my internship, with the encouragement of my supervisor, I participated in all aspects of IMBeR's work, including media tasks, daily operations, and English translation. The media work is related to my own profession, and I was responsible for assisting in shooting offline meetings, designing logos and event banners, modifying event press releases, and editing daily tweets on the WeChat official account. Additionally, I participated in arranging the venue during the offline meeting process.
In terms of English, I challenged myself by participating in the translation of English papers and the production of weekly reports. I am grateful to the teachers at IMBeR for their patience in helping me revise.
During this process, my English reading and writing abilities have greatly improved. Here, I deepened my love for environmental protection and marine knowledge. In the process of working at IMBeR, I felt a combination of academic rigor and tolerance that encouraged everyone to participate flexibly. I met many excellent interns here, and I learned a lot from communicating with them. Thanks to all the teachers at the IMBeR office for cultivating the abilities of interns. I believe that all of you will be able to broaden your abilities and vision after joining the IMBeR office.
Most Brilliant Implementation Award
Wei Jiang - The most exciting thing about the internship at IMBeR is working with a wonderful team, including Prof. Hong, Fang, and Kai. They have set a good example for us and given endless encouragement and support during our internship. When faced with challenging tasks, they never hesitate to offer valuable advice and patient guidance, which has inspired everyone on the team.
More importantly, I was able to apply what I learned to my work at IMBeR. As an English major, I have mastered the language as a tool and polished my translation skills through practice. At IMBeR, I was assigned to translate texts ranging from academic papers to reports, newsletters, and agreements. I believe that this experience is not only about translating texts of different types but also about gaining a full-scale and in-depth understanding of different fields.
Working as an intern at IMBeR is also a good opportunity for me to meet new challenges and realize my full potential. In addition to translation, my daily tasks also involve new media typesetting, designing posters and certificates, refining budgets for conferences, and contacting airlines or hotels. It is this variety of tasks that has enabled me to be exposed to challenges, master new skills, and improve my personal abilities, such as communication, cooperation, and problem-solving.
During the internship, I was also impressed by the experience of working with the Canadian office of IMBeR. I assisted with the ClimEco8 Summer School Project and helped prepare the flyer for the event with Lisa, who also provided valuable advice for my work. From this experience, I realized once again that what you gain from an international organization is not just work experience, but also a chance to broaden your horizons, learn from others, and go beyond your limits.
Greatest Potential Award
Qing Lv - I joined IMBeR in 2022. At that time, I had just become a postgraduate student in Ecology at the State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research (SKLEC).
As a postgraduate student in ecology, it is important to stay up-to-date with the latest research trends both domestically and internationally and to adhere to international standards. I felt fortunate to have such a great internship opportunity to learn about relevant ecological hotspots and cutting-edge knowledge from a broader perspective.
Throughout the internship, I was responsible for translating academic papers and designing new media platforms. I not only improved my English writing and organizational skills but also gained proficiency in related software. The patient teaching and affirmative encouragement from the supervising teachers helped me grow throughout the process.
After the six-month internship, I was deeply impressed. I personally experienced the great efforts made by IMBeR to promote scientific and cultural exchanges between various countries. IMBeR is committed to organizing science lectures and academic salons to help international students better understand our country and to facilitate cultural exchange.
The internship at IMBeR allowed me to gain exposure to the working environment of international organizations. I am grateful to the Estuary Institute and IMBeR for their support. In the future, I will continue my research in the field of marine ecology and promote the idea of protecting the ocean and the environment to a wider audience. Thank you again to IMBeR for a great experience.
Most Impressive Presentation Award
Ao Shen - I joined IMBeR as an intern in December 2022 and worked in this international project office for approximately seven months. As I reflect on this period, I am grateful for the opportunity to work with an outstanding team and explore the diverse career possibilities as an English major student.
I would like to express my appreciation for the guidance and support provided by the entire team. Their expertise and willingness to share knowledge have been instrumental in helping me overcome the challenges I encountered during these past seven months. At the beginning of the internship, lacking a professional background in marine biosphere research, I found tasks such as academic paper translation and bilingual newsletter writing quite challenging. However, every time I faced difficulties, the team was always generous in providing detailed guidance and valuable suggestions to enhance my output. Throughout this internship, I not only learned a wealth of professional knowledge from them but also their admirable work ethic.
During my time at IMBeR, I had the privilege of observing the relentless efforts of scientists and researchers worldwide in protecting the marine biosphere. As my internship draws to a close, I will cherish this experience as an invaluable memory. Carrying this memory with me and staying true to my original aspiration of making the world a better place, I will continue my journey forward.
Once again, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to intern at IMBeR. The knowledge and experiences gained during this time will undoubtedly shape my future endeavors.
Most Outstanding Dedication Award
Jing Wen - I had the incredible opportunity to intern at IMBeR as a postgraduate student majoring in Human Geography, and I am truly grateful for the experience. Working alongside the team at IMBeR has been a remarkable journey filled with growth and learning.
As an intern, my responsibilities primarily involved assisting the Strategy Director, Hong, the Deputy Director, Fang, and the Project Assistant, Kai, in organizing and coordinating international conferences and meetings. From the very beginning, I was welcomed with open arms by the team. Their encouragement and support created a relaxed and nurturing environment that boosted my confidence. Despite the high standards of my assignments, I never once received any criticism. Instead, I received sincere and gentle encouragement, which greatly contributed to my personal and professional development.
Throughout the internship, I honed my organizational and time management skills, enabling me to effectively prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. The presentations I delivered during these meetings were truly rewarding. I gained valuable insights into the river network of Shanghai. Assisting in project proposals not only enhanced my literature-reading skills but also exposed me to new areas of study, particularly in the field of marine biosphere research. These experiences not only enhanced my professional capabilities but also reinforced the importance of effective communication in a professional setting. Moreover, working at IMBeR provided me with a unique and inclusive international environment. I gained in-depth knowledge about marine geography and had the opportunity to engage with the latest hot topics and issues.

Although I had no prior experience with the software, I dedicated significant effort to familiarizing myself with its functionalities and utilizing it effectively. Through this process, I successfully organized and categorized a substantial collection of research papers, optimizing their accessibility and enhancing collaboration within the team. This experience not only strengthened my proficiency with publication management but also highlighted the importance of adaptability and quick learning in a new field. Another significant aspect of my internship was translating abstracts of the latest scientific papers. Contributing to the translation and dissemination of scientific knowledge was a gratifying experience, as it made important research more accessible to a wider audience.
Furthermore, I had the opportunity to contribute to the editing of the monthly e-news on the WeChat Official Account. It was a valuable experience to be able to contribute to the organization's efforts in raising awareness about environmental issues and promoting scientific literacy.
Throughout my internship, I was fortunate to work alongside a supportive and knowledgeable team.
