The Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement (IME) office and the Hispanic Heritage Month Planning Committee is proud to announce that we are hosting a Community Circle for those who self-identify as Hispanic, Latine, and/or Chicane.
Community Circles are spaces in which similarly identifying people can come to together and discuss about being that Identity. No need to be an expert in your community, sharing lived experience and finding community is most important at these events.
RSVP deadline is Monday, October 3rd.

Honoring LGBTQIA History Month
October is LGBTQ+ History Month! It’s important to take the time and celebrate the history and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community. October was the chosen month of honoring due to the National Coming Out Day (October 11th) and the anniversary of the first march for gay rights in Washington (October 14, 1979). Be on the lookout for our LGBTQIA Social, Trivia Night and Community Circle for the Queer, Trans, People of Color community!

IME is looking for Indigenous identifying students, faculty, and staff, and allies alike to join the Indigenous Peoples' Month Planning Committee.
What the position entails is meeting weekly leading up to the Heritage Month (November) to brainstorm and plan events and figure out logistics.

This Tuesday evening at 6pm, LC English is delighted to kick off our Fall 2022 Reading Series, showcasing work by Visiting Instructor and LC alumna Audrey Gutierrez! Audrey Gutierrez is a Cuban-American writer from Lafayette, Louisiana. She earned an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and is a finalist of the 2022 PEN Emerging Voices Fellowship and of the Mary Blodgett Fiction Prize from the University of Iowa.

Race Monologues Weekly Session

Started in 2002 between affiliated student groups to cover experiences of race and ethnicity at Lewis and Clark, Race Monologues continues to be a space for students of color to safely engage with these topics as well as present them in a form that is comfortable and unapologetic at the end of the Ray Warren Symposium. If community building, critical writing, or art/poetry interest you, please come by Thursdays at 7pm in Tamarack!
Also frequent attendance at Race Monologues meetings are not a requirement to join at any part of the semester. Feel free to come in even if you missed our information session late week. We would love to see you!

Students for Cultural Inclusion in the Theatre (SCIT) + Ray Warren Symposium: Auditions!

Please come audition for a new play, "Jordan's Wisdom," written by local Portland playwright, Josie Seid, directed by Sanaa Green! Auditions take place on Oct. 11th (location TBD). This year's theme is "Art of Storytelling" and all students are welcomed. Meetings will be held every other Tuesday from 3:30-4:30 pm.

Ray Warren Symposium: Call For Art!
The 19th Annual Ray Warren Symposium on Race and Ethnic Studies (November 9-11, 2022) will explore the theme of "Art of Storytelling." Though we especially welcome works of art engaging with this year's theme, all art examining issues of race and ethnicity will be considered. This year's art exhibit will include a virtual gallery and a physical installation on campus.
We encourage all visual art engaging with the themes of race and ethnicity. No previous experience in the arts is necessary to submit your work!

To celebrate the Hispanic Heritage month, we would like to provide a space to create something together while sharing stories of our cultures, traditions, languages, etc. Please join us as we come together in community. All materials will be provided, including tamales! Must register to attend and you will be automatically entered into a raffle for gift cards to hispanic/latino owned businesses in PDX!

Black Alumni Mentorship Program
In a collaboration between Black Student Union and the Lewis & Clark Black Alumni Association (LCBAA), we are excited to share with you the Black Alumni Mentorship Program, launching this fall semester!
The purpose of this program is to connect students who identify as Black with Black alumni who will provide support, guidance, and advice. College can be challenging, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get great advice from alumni who have navigated across the same campus like you! If you are interested to connect with a Black L&C alumni, please take a moment to fill out this short form.

If you’re interested in promoting equity at Lewis & Clark, apply to be a member of the Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Committee (EIJC)! EIJC is the branch of ASB that advocates for marginalized students on campus, ensures equitable policies are implemented, and distributes funds towards social justice causes on campus. At EIJC, you can work with other students who are passionate about social issues, gain useful experience for future equity work, and affect changes that will create a more inclusive and just environment at LC.
We meet Wednesdays from 5-6pm.

We know advertising is important for your clubs, organizations, and offices. The IME office loves to help spread the word of awesome events and opportunities. If you would like to submit something to be added to the IME newsletter, please fill out the form below. The IME newsletter goes out every Monday afternoon (or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday). All submissions to make it into the weekly newsletter must be done by Monday morning at 8 am or they will be added to the following week's newsletter.
