Welcome to the new school year, everyone!! This is the Office of  Inclusion & Multicultural Engagement (IME) newsletter. In here you’ll find the upcoming IME events along with events and opportunities from other L&C departments, unions and clubs and community organizations! IME News!

New BIPOC/First-Gen Students! Join the Great Expectations Mentorship (GEM) Program


GEM is a program is designed to provide a smooth transition to new students who identify as students of color and/or first-generation* to Lewis & Clark College by connecting new students (mentees) with an upperclassmen (mentor) for a year-long mentorship program.


Last day to sign up is September 2nd!

Come one, come all to IME's Open House!


Come check-out the IME suite on August 30th from 4:30-6pm. We will have board games and raffle prizes!


The IME suite is typically opened M-F from 9-5pm. This is a great spot to chill, study, hangout in between classes and meet cool people!

First-Generation Community Circle

Tuesday, September 6th

6:00-7:00pm @ IME Suite

(Templeton 3rd Floor)


IME is hosting a Community Circle for students who self-identifies as first-generation college students on Tuesday, Sept 6th from 6-7pm.


Community Circles are a space where students can find support and talk about their identities, education and other lived experiences. No need to be an expert as this space is for you. Community Circles can vary based on who is facilitating the dialogue and the identities that the space holds.


L&C define first-generation as neither guardians have earned a Bachelor's degree in the United States, however, if you feel like you don't fit this definition and would like to participate, we encourage that you do!

Visit Portland! Portland Bus Trip


Portland Bus trips for Fall 2022 will happen on Sunday, September 4th!


Take a trip to Mt. Tabor, Alberta Park, or NW 23rd/Wallace Park! Buses will arrive at Upper Griswold Stadium at 12pm and depart at 12:15pm. Buses will collect students at the end of the bus trips at 4pm and depart at 4:15pm.

The Let Out: A space to promote mental health for BIPOC students 


September 8th & 22nd, 2022

5:30pm @IME Suite


Join The Let Out, with Christabel Léonce, Outreach Coordinator and Mental Health Counselor. Every 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month at 5:30pm!


The Let Out is a safe space for BIPOC students to explore questions about mental health with a mental health professional.

Foreign Service Fellowships Info Session with LC Alumni

Thursday, September 1st

6:30 PM PST on Zoom

Join Lewis & Clark alumni Sarah Lind-MacMillan (BA 22), Mikah Bertelmann (BA 21), and Ellie Miller (BA 20) for an information session about various diplomatic fellowships such as the Thomas R. Pickering Fellowship and Charles B. Rangel Fellowship.


These programs provide significant financial support for awardees to attend a 2-year masters program, participate in foreign affairs internships in DC and abroad, and lead to a career as a diplomat with the U.S. Department of State.


If you're considering applying this year or in the future definitely join us. ALL majors are welcome - you do not need to be an international affairs/poli sci major you just need to have an interest in foreign affairs and public service!

We know advertising is important for your clubs, organizations, and offices. The IME office loves to help spread the word of awesome events and opportunities. If you would like to submit something to be added to the IME newsletter, please fill out the form below. The IME newsletter goes out every Monday afternoon (or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday). All submissions to make it into the weekly newsletter must be done by Monday morning at 8 am or they will be added to the follow newsletter.
