Join the IMECaN committee!
The Interdisciplinary Marine Early Career Network (IMECaN) is inviting applications from early career researchers (ECRs) to join its organising committee, following IMECaN terms of reference. Applications are open to all marine ECRs, including but not limited to marine science graduate students (Masters and PhDs), and early career researchers.

IMECaN welcomes applications from all sections of the community and we consider all areas of inclusion. We particularly encourage applications from ECRs originating from developing countries or the Global South, as this is an area where marine science needs to make the greatest improvement. Prioritizing this factor is not to the exclusion of other identities and initiatives.

Early Career Researcher Spotlight
Gabriella Akpah Yeboah is a marine scientist currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Ghana in the marine biogeochemistry lab of the Department of Marine and Fisheries Sciences. For both her master's and Ph.D. degrees, she specializes in oyster sclerochronology with a keen interest in reconstructing the environment and determining historical trends in population and climate change. She has expertise in other marine-related fields, marine plastic pollution, remote sensing, and mycology.

Dedicated to broader causes, Gabriella presently holds the role of Early Career Ocean Professional (ECOP) Ghana national coordinator. Driven by a fervent commitment to champion the interests of underrepresented ECOPs in Ghana and across Africa, she's a keen advocate for climate change awareness and marine conservation.

Gabriella's journey has been enriched by her participation in the Coastal Ocean Environment Summer School in Nigeria and Ghana (COESSING), which has endowed her with invaluable skills in data analysis and bestowed immersive learning experiences. These encounters have fortified her with a sturdy foundation in ocean science, cultivating a profound admiration for the intricacies of marine ecosystems.

Remarkably, she gave a talk at the inaugural West African Marine Science Symposium in August 2023. Her stellar leadership and dedication to her field have also led to her nomination as co-chair of the Gordon Research Seminar (GRS), the early career networking division of the renowned biennial Gordon Research Conference (GRC) on Chemical Oceanography. This recognition transpired during the recently concluded GRC meeting held in June 2023 in New Hampshire, USA.
