February 2023
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NIV

Last Chance to Register for Workshop: Opening to the Heart of Worship

You are invited to to participate in Ithaca Meeting’s Opening to the Heart of Worship workshop coming up on Friday evening February 3 and on Saturday, February 4 from 9am to 4pm.  Thursday, February 2, is the last day to register for this workshop. We have a few more openings with an upward limit of 40. If we reach 40 we will start a waiting list and will include you if we get cancellations. The workshop will be offered in a hybrid format so you may attend in-person at the Third Street Meetinghouse or on Zoom. The workshop will be facilitated by well known Quaker Workshop leader Christopher Sammond.

During the workshop we will explore how to prepare for worship, how to center down, how to listen to each other with our whole being - body, mind, and spirit - and how to better open to each other and the Divine during worship. We will create a sense of community from which to access our individual and collective wellsprings of the Source. Our work together will be experiential, immediate, and will draw us into a deeper experience of our rich practice as Friends.

IMM Inclusion

On Friday February 24, at 7:00 pm, the second meeting of IMM Friends to consider how to make our Meeting more welcoming, will be held via Zoom. We are calling these meetings "IMM Inclusion." All are welcome!

This effort started with a concern for racial justice and has developed into a way to deepen our sense of community and become more inclusive. We think IMM is not inclusive, especially of people of color.

This is not a study group. We are hoping this group actively considers how we may help IMM become more inclusive. We would like this group to stay grounded in who we are and who we would like to become. We invite Friends who would like to engage in this ongoing effort to support each other and follow leadings of the Spirit for how we can have courageous conversations with respect and love.

If you would like to join this zoom meeting, please contact Carol Clarke and she'll send you the zoom link.  We request this so that we may know how many to expect at the meeting.  Carol can be reached at [email protected]

Printed Newsletters Available

When the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020, the Communications Committee (Comm Comm) laid down the paper version of our IMM newsletter and transitioned to an electronic version that is emailed to Friends every month. As more people are returning to worship in person we have heard requests to have a paper version available at Meeting for Worship. Beginning this month, paper copies of this e-newsletter will be available at the Third Street Meetinghouse. Upon request, copies can also be mailed to Friends.

Comm Comm plans to make printed copies available for a trial period of a few months. After that we'll evaluate how it's going. Are copies being taken? How many copies should be printed each month? Is the process of printing and making copies of the e-newsletter working in a reasonable manner?
Dish-to-pass: Family and Potluck Sundays

Ministry and Worship will continue potlucks on the last Sunday of the month. We will also provide childcare on these Sundays, to encourage family participation in both worship and potlucks. Our next potluck will be on Sunday, February 26 and we will be prepared to offer childcare during Meeting for Worship that day.  We invite Friends to continue to join this Ministry of sharing food together.
