The IMM listserv has moved
Friends, we have a new channel for communicating with Ithaca Monthly Meeting Friends though a service called groups.io. The new platform offers three sub-groups for our use: announcements, witness, and community.
- Announcements is only for news and events of Ithaca Monthly Meeting or wider Quaker bodies. The focus is narrow and specific. (This list most closely mirrors how we have used the Cornell listserv in the past.) To send an email to announcements, simply put announcements@IMMRSF.groups.io in the To: line of your email.
- Witness is for messages related to Quaker testimonies or witness. This is where we can share information about social justice, peace witness, or Earthcare events, activities, or information. To send messages to this listserv, put witness@IMMRSF.groups.io in the To: line of your email.
- Community is for sharing more general information, notices, questions, and happenings we want to share with our Meeting community. The purpose of the Community list is to build social connections among the members and attenders of IMM. To send messages to this listserv, put community@IMMRSF.groups.io in the To: line of your email.
Thank you for your patience as we work through the transition and adapting to the new system.

The Patio is Open
At June's Monthly Meeting, Friends approved that the enclosed courtyard at the Third Street Meetinghouse could be used for IMM committee meetings that do not exceed twelve people. Tape marks placed on the ground help Friends place chairs at safe distances. A bin with gloves, spray cleaner and paper towels is under the stairs to the backdoor. Please wipe down chairs and tables after using them.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki Remembrance
Sunday, August 9, 6pm
There has been a tradition of Friends and others taking the time to remember the dropping of the first atomic bombs in 1945 on Hiroshima (August 6) and on Nagasaki (August 9) with a silent vigil around the Peace Pole in front of the Friends Center for Racial Justice,
227 North Willard Way.
This is a vigil of mindfulness and remembrance of the thousands of persons who were killed 75 years ago at the instant of the blasts, those who later died from their injuries, and those who suffered from their injuries.
We will soon be marking the 75th anniversary of these bombings. We are in the process of trying to find the best way to have this vigil — possibly in person for a certain number of people where we can safely distance, and also virtually, if it seems Zoom technology would be workable in this situation. As plans are made, they will be shared. If you have questions, contact Elizabeth Schneider (
neschneid@aol.com
, or 607-351-0057).

A Reminder about First Day Worship
During June's Meeting for Worship with Attention to Business, Friends extended the following practices (first minuted in May) in an attempt to address "Zoom-fatigue":
- Shortening our official online worship time to 45 minutes. Meeting for Worship will begin at 10:30a and end at 11:15a. For Friends who desire a more extended worship time, the Zoom worship space will be available starting at 10:15a.
- Eliminating community announcements at the end of worship. Announcements concerning IMM will be made by the clerk in a single, succinct list after worship. Friends who wish for the clerk to make an IMM announcement should contact the Gina Varrichio by Saturday evening. Friends are invited to share community announcements on the community listserv and/or in this newsletter.

Virtual workshops from Powell House on Saturday, July 11th
“
Peace Begins at Home
” with Suzanne Blackburn, Carlton Brown, and
Gina Varrichio,
10:00am-12:00pm.

With schools and workplaces shut down all over the world, many of us are spending much more time at home with our family members, roommates, or others with whom we share living space. Even if we love these people very deeply, we may find ourselves in conflict with the people we live with. In this Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) Virtual Mini-Workshop, we will explore how we might peacefully navigate tension, stress, or other conflict we experience within our own households. Peace begins within, starting with the self. No prior AVP experience necessary to participate. Families with youth are welcome to participate together.
“
Self Care for Educators
” with Alexander Kopelman and Mark LaRiviere of the Children’s Arts Guild, 2:00pm-4:00pm.
The Children’s Arts Guild partners with educators to bring authenticity-based social-emotional learning to school communities across the country. In our Authenticity in the Classroom program, we bring self-care workshops to educators that focus on helping teachers tap into the passion for their craft to address stress in their professional lives.
This workshop is designed to help teachers with their self-care practice and continue to build a community of support. Our workshops have recently been featured at SXSW EDU, The National School Board Association Conference, and the New York State Art Educators Conference. Pennsylvania Department of Education.
