1. CAN YOU EXPLAIN THIS IN SIMPLE TERMS?
Your alarm system uses cellular technology to communicate emergency alarm signals. Due to upcoming changes by the cellular carriers, the communicator in your security system must to be upgraded to the latest technology.
2. WHEN WILL THIS HAPPEN?
It is happening now. The shutdown of 3G services will be completed by AT&T no later than February 2022. Other national providers are also rapidly switching their services to LTE and 5g quickly.
You will be without monitored security protection unless you upgrade before your local towers are updated.
3. WILL I BE NOTIFIED WHEN CELL SERVICE IN MY AREA CHANGES?
NO. Cellular providers are NOT giving notice as they upgrade towers.
Without quick action, many users will find themselves without protection when they need it most.
4. WHAT HAPPENS IF I WAIT?
Because of supply chain issues and labor constraints, customers who wait too long to upgrade will find themselves with a gap in coverage. Customers who have not upgraded their systems before towers are updated will no longer communicate with the central station in the event of an emergency.
5. WILL THIS HAPPEN AGAIN?
Yes. Cellular upgrades and cycles seem to end every few years, however the communicators that we are installing today are expected to continue to be supported for at least the next 5-7 years.
6. Will I GET ANY NEW FEATURES
Depending on the systems and services you currently have, newer communicators may increase communication speeds or bring new features. There are sometimes additional costs associated with new services, and we would be happy to have someone take a look at your system more closely and discuss those options if you would like.
