COVID-19 Vaccinations – Round 2!
|
|
It's been a long journey, but very successful. So far, a total of 609 Fellowship House residents have been vaccinated across all FOUR properties in both Virginia and Maryland.
At the recent ‘second dose’ vaccination clinics, Fellowship House residents were provided with heart-shaped stress relief balls to ease their ongoing COVID-related tension.
We are grateful to our staff who have ensured everything has run smoothly. They have remained flexible and organized through multiple last-minute changes, and exemplify teamwork at its best.
As expressed by Lake Anne resident, Steve McAvoy, “The dedication of our organization to bring us our vaccinations, and the incredible daily blessings we receive as residents of Fellowship House, is appreciated far more than we can put into words.”

Hunters Woods Fellowship House residents, Mr. and Mrs. Yim, receive their SECOND dose of the COVID-19 vaccination administered by Walgreens.

We have achieved the impossible! More than 650 Fellowship House residents, staff, board members and others in our circle have been vaccinated at one of our four Fellowship Square properties. Through our national partnerships with CVS and Walgreens, we have had pharmacists going door-to-door at each Fellowship House these last two months delivering shots to those that want it.
The residents have been thrilled and thankful for this opportunity. They feel special that they are near the front of the line for something that is literally lifesaving. For people who have usually been at the end of the line for most things – who have had to struggle all their lives on meeting some of their basic needs – for them, having the vaccine this early in the process is a true blessing for them.
We are well aware of the misinformation circulating in the media and through word-of-mouth about what the vaccine does and does not do. There are many - including some Fellowship House residents - who are skeptical or fearful of its effectiveness and the process it went through to gain approval from the Federal Drug Administration (FDA).
We understand that not everyone will be taking advantage of this initial opportunity to get vaccinated. We respect older adults’ independence and will continue to give them the space they need to make up their own minds about when to get vaccinated. We will also continue to provide accurate information so that they can make an informed decision – and get the vaccine when they are ready. I am grateful for our team’s effort to bring the vaccine to all of our properties – and am pleased with the initial number of residents who have opted to get vaccinated.
Much gratitude,

Hunters Woods Celebrates the Completion of Phase I Renovations
|
|
Residents had a great time enjoying ‘live’ entertainment and goodie bags to celebrate the end of Phase 1 renovation work at Hunters Woods Fellowship House!
Thank you @RandalzBonez for getting our residents out the door and dancing with your lively music! Also, a huge thank you to our volunteer, Debbie Aschenbach, for always lending a helping hand. Phase I renovations included replacement of all heating units in the apartments, roof work, updates to the trash and recycling rooms, upgrades of the common area air handlers and remodeling of the accessible units to bring them into compliance with today’s standards.
Phase 2 of the renovation is underway and will include upgrades to the exterior spaces around the building, bathroom remodeling and upgrades in all resident units and improvements to the common areas in the building. We expect the project to be completed in the fall/winter of this year.

A handful of Hunters Woods Fellowship House residents will soon be moving back into their newly refreshed barrier-free units! They will enjoy a complete renovation of the kitchen and bathrooms to make them accessible:

-
Bathroom: new showers, vanities, toilet, hardware, grab bars
Other enhancements include new lighting that has been installed throughout each unit; new interior doors and shelving; new flooring; devices for the visual and hearing impaired; heating system and domestic water riser replacement; new paint; new entry door and fob access system; new blinds and a new sprinkler system.

A heart-felt thank you to our friends at Kids Give Back, a non-profit organization that provides elementary-aged children with opportunities to volunteer in their community, for creating and sharing 92 cupcake sock gifts and 130 valentine's cards for our residents at Lake Anne Fellowship House. What a way to bring smiles to our residents’ faces!
Ongoing Request for Volunteers
As a reminder, we need healthy adult volunteers (age 18+) to assist in getting food donations to our senior residents. Please continue to check the Volunteers page of the Fellowship Square website for upcoming “Fellowship Fresh” opportunities.

A NEW FACE AT LAKE RIDGE FELLOWSHIP HOUSE
|
|
Nicole Harrison
Service Coordinator for the Lake Ridge Community
Nicole Harrison has joined our Fellowship Square team as the new Service Coordinator at Lake Ridge Fellowship House. She will assist residents with connecting to various programs and services, and she looks forward to providing other forms of support as well. Prior to Fellowship Square, Nicole worked with well-established companies such as SEEC (Non-profit) and Evercare Home Health, to name a few, working with individuals with mental illness, physical disabilities, and with the older adult population. She facilitated setting up several pilot programs to aid clients with finding employment, travel training, and residential services.
After spending more than 10 years in the field, Nicole will draw on her skill sets as a case manager to work closely with residents and ensure they are confident in their own autonomy. She will help them utilize the resources available in the community to ensure they continue to live as independently as possible. Her goal is to aid Fellowship Square to continue empowering the lives of the residents with the services they provide. Nicole is a graduate of George Mason University where she majored in psychology. She currently lives in Woodbridge, Virginia, with her husband and two dogs. When she is not keeping busy assisting others, she can be found practicing yoga and enjoying nature.
