Team Feature

For this edition of Team Feature, we are delighted to introduce one of our Medical Writing (MW) teams, under the stewardship of Abigail (Abby) McLeod. IMPACT'S MW teams author a variety of regulatory documents across a wide range of therapeutic areas and development phases. IMPACT's MW department has particular expertise in the authoring of clinical components of marketing applications in the US and Europe. Abby's team consists of Amritha Kidiyoor and Alicia Carreiro. We asked the team about their professional writing interests and what led them to their role here at IMPACT.

Abby McLeod: After receiving a PhD in Pharmacology from Duke University in 2015, Abby worked as a Regulatory Coordinator at Duke Cancer Institute. There, she was exposed to protocol development, IND/IRB submissions, and clinical manuscript authoring, which helped her discover her interest in medical writing. She came to IMPACT in May 2017 and has been here ever since! Although she likes the variety of document/therapeutic area exposure in the CRO environment, she has a preference for IND, protocol, and IB documents. Given her experience in cancer research in the laboratory and clinical setting, Abby enjoys the complexities of oncology-based projects.

Amritha Kidiyoor: Amritha has enjoyed creative writing since a young age and when, in graduate school, she found out scientific writing and medical writing were career options, she gravitated toward a related path. She joined IMPACT in June 2018 as one of the first Medical Writing fellows. She likes to be exposed to different document types and indications. Given her background in cancer immunology and regenerative medicine, she has a preference for these indications.

Alicia Carreiro: Throughout her time in grad school, Alicia realized that she really enjoys the communication of scientific information, and as a result she accepted a medical communications position after graduation. While in this position, Alicia learned more about her strengths/interests in more structured medical writing, which is what led her to the Medical Writing Fellowship program at IMPACT. So far she has been open to getting a broad exposure to a variety of document types and therapeutic areas, but she does have some experience in the field of neurology/epilepsy and finds that her background knowledge comes in handy when writing documents pertaining to this therapeutic area.
