Back-to-School Special Issue!

Dear Sailors and Sailor Parents, 


We are excited for the 2023-2024 school year and are praying for a successful and joyful year for each of your daughters. This letter will provide you with information regarding basic school policies, first day schedules, freshman and transfer orientation, MBS consumables book ordering and much more. 

Daily School Hours

7 a.m.- 5 p.m. Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 2:40 p.m. on regularly scheduled days. The complete listing of bell schedules can be found in the Student Handbook, distributed to students on the first day of school. Free afterschool supervision is provided until 5:00 p.m. Students may not arrive earlier than 7 a.m. and must be picked up from campus no later than 5:00 p.m., unless involved in an extracurricular

activity. (Families will be billed $25.00 every 15 minutes past 5:00 p.m.)

Absence Reporting via Schoolpass

Mount de Sales uses SchoolPass to report late arrivals, absences, and early dismissals. New parents will receive a welcome email with set-up instructions in mid-August. Returning parents should confirm that the SchoolPass app is downloaded and active on your device.


For assistance, view the SchoolPass tile on your Sailor Portal Resource Board or email [email protected]. Further details on using the absence reporting system will be presented at our New Parent Information Session.

Athletic Parent Meeting


Monday, August 21 at 6:45 p.m. in the CPASL. If your daughter is planning to participate in a fall sport, at least one parent must attend the Athletic Parent Meeting.

BOOK ORDERING (Consumable books)


All students must purchase required ‘consumable’ books and workbooks for courses using ‘consumables’ before the first day of school. Please click here to read directions on how to access and purchase your daughter’s consumables through the MBS online bookstore.


If your daughter’s schedule changed over the summer, check that she has purchased the correct consumables. Free shipping week is August 7-15. Get your books on time - Don’t wait to order.

PARKING PASSES

Available to juniors and seniors only


Parking Passes are $75.00. Registration requests are only available through this link: 2023-2024 Parking Pass Registration Request.


Priority is given to seniors. Students must present their Maryland State Driver’s License when picking up their parking pass

CAFETERIA INFORMATION


Cafeteria services begin August 28.


A detailed communication will be emailed in the coming weeks. Freshman and Transfer students will receive log in details during Orientation.


Returning students needing a replacement card must email [email protected] to request a new card before any purchases can be made.

Sailor Shop

  • Summer hours are Tuesday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. through August 18.
  • The store will be closed August 7-11.
  • Hours the week of August 21 will be 8:00 a.m.– 3:00 p.m.
  • Starting August 31, hour will be Thursday’s only from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. until further notice.

Miraculous Medals, Name Tags, Gym Uniforms, Senior Pullovers and more may be ordered on our website and shipped to your home or picked up at the Sailor Shop on Thursdays. The Gym Uniform

is required for all PE classes: MDSA short sleeve T-shirt and shorts and any MDSA sweatpants/sweatshirts.

SENIOR PARENT INFORMATION MEETING September 7, 7:45 a.m.-9:00 a.m.; Bird Room


Senior Parents are invited to a Senior Coffee and Information Session with Mrs. Colletti, Mrs. Greene and Ms. Bolesta. Topics include the college application process, senior retreat, and important senior events. At least 1 parent is asked to attend. Senior Coffee and Information Session RSVP

NEW SERVICE HOUR APP - MOBILESERVE



MDSA is moving to the MobileServe App for logging student service hours. Access to X2Vol is no longer in service. MDSA is currently working on migrating past service hours from X2VOL to MobileServe. Students will receive instructions for using MobileServe the first week of school.

STUDENT SCHEDULES


Students and parents can log into their Sailor Portal to view their school schedule under the student progress tab.


Adjustments have been made to the rough draft schedules sent out in early June.

SUMMER READING, SUMMER MATH, and AP COURSEWORK


Students are required to complete the summer English reading assignments and summer Math assignments. Students registered for AP courses or Advanced Art courses may also be assigned summer work.


Detailed information was given in early June and can also be found on the Sailor Portal here. All students are responsible for completing summer work by the first week of school.

All student information must be up to date prior to the first day of school. Please verify the completion of your daughter’s forms by logging into your Sailor Portal account. For further assistance email [email protected]. The following forms must be completed prior to August 14, 2023.

Peter Pan Auditions

 

Auditions for the MDSA fall musical Peter Pan will be held on Tuesday, August 22, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. in the Center for Performing Arts & Student Life! All MDSA students are welcome, along with gentlemen from any Catholic high school. See the SIGN UP for more information! Email [email protected] with questions.

NEW STUDENT INFORMATION AND ORIENTATION

This information below only pertains to our new students.

Freshman Orientation runs August 21-23 and are required school days for first-year students. Transfer Orientation is August 21 only.


Student Drop Off is at the main entrance of the 1852 building. Students should bring a water bottle each day. Please email questions to Mrs. Greene or Ms. O’Friel.


ATTIRE ON MONDAY: Casual dress code: mid-thigh shorts or longer, full coverage tops.


ATTIRE ON TUESDAY: Freshman will be given a special shirt on Monday which they wear on Tuesday.


ATTIRE ON WEDNESDAY: Full School Uniform; ID photos taken

Technology Orientation

Students bring their charged tablet and a charger and completed the New Student Tech Checklist (see below). Freshmen attend the technology orientation on the date/time associated with the first initial of their last name. Transfer students attend the Monday Tech Session noted “New Transfer Students.”

Small Group Orientation

Students bring a water bottle. Snack provided. Freshman attend the small group orientation on the date and time associated with the first initial of their last name.


Transfer students will have a special orientation and lunch with School Counselor Mrs. D’Antonio immediately following their Tech Session on Monday (time noted below).

Full Day Freshman Orientation

Wednesday, August 23; 7:45 a.m.-1:30 p.m.


Freshman (only) will be oriented to their schedules and homerooms, identify key resources throughout the building and get to know one another in order to be better acclimated for their first day of school.


  • Attire: Full spring uniform. Freshman ID photos will be taken.
  • Chick Fil A Sandwich Lunch Provided for all freshman. Email Mrs. Greene at [email protected] with any dietary restrictions by Monday, August 14.


New Parent Information Session


August 23, 8:10 a.m.-9:30 a.m.; Center for Performing Arts and Student Life (CPASL). *Optional 7 a.m. Daily Mass available in the School Chapel for those who wish to attend.


Parents of freshman and newly enrolled transfer students are invited to join Sr. Mary Raymond and key Administrative Staff. Though both are invited, only one parent needs to attend.
