Dear Mercy Parents,
I am really looking forward to meeting your daughters (and you) as August unfolds. As you can imagine, it’s been an incredibly busy summer as we work to make everything ready for the 2018-19 school year. Needless to say, we’ve had some changes and I know that you’re curious about them all. Mine is, of course, a new face and I first of all ask your support and want you to know that I want our relationship to be honest and open. We are, after all, motivated by the same desire: that your daughter may have the very best educational experience in every way—spiritually, intellectually, and personally. My presence at Mercy represents not only my passion for Mercy education, but also the continuing support of the Sisters of Mercy for Mercy High School as we begin our 66th year. I look forward to partnering with you as we begin an exciting, new school year.
In this fresh beginning, may God shine his merciful face upon us and bless us all!
In Mercy,

Freshman orientation week is designed to introduce your daughter to the realities of high school while making sure she learns the strategies of successful students so that she can begin day one of high school on the path to success.
The entire faculty and staff of Mercy High School eagerly await greeting your family to our community. We hope your daughters enjoy your last weeks of summer and are ready to join a network of fiercely determined women that are using their Mercy education to make a positive difference in the world.

First Day of School
Friday, August 24, is the official first day of school for the 2018-2019 school year. Classes begin at 8:00 a.m., and the day ends at 2:15 p.m. We would like to remind everyone to budget sufficient time in order to make it to campus with plenty of time to enter class before 8:00 a.m. For students being dropped off in the morning by vehicle, please remember to use the Juniper Serra back entrance to campus. The safety of everyone on our campus is a priority.

Course Change Deadline
As the first day of school is quickly approaching, so will the deadline to change courses.
August 31 is the deadline for students to submit course change requests to counselors.
We understand many things can change over a summer break and courses requested last year may no longer match current goals or desires. Please review your child’s schedule and discuss course load and offerings before this deadline.

College Essay Workshop for Seniors
On August 30, an after school workshop is being offered to seniors to work on and improve their university admissions essays. More details will posted in the homeroom slides.

Academic Advising
As the school year begins, we all get the chance to recommit to beginning the year making choices that lead to success in the classroom. One of these choices can be to attend Academic Advising. Academic Advising is time scheduled for students to connect with teachers to ask questions, review course content, or to extend understandings of content. The first Academic Advising session of the year is August 28, from 2:30 - 3:00 p.m.

Counselor News
In July, Ms. McVeigh and Ms. Wickham attended the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Conference in Los Angeles, along with over 3,000 other school counselors from across the nation. Over the course of four days (and long hours!), they attended over 25 sessions led by some of the top leaders in school counseling. The day is filled with the spirit of Mercy fun and love! Students and parents will have different events throughout the day.

Parent Pledge
The Parent Pledge is a multi-year gift that gives our parents the opportunity to help offset the financial gap between tuition and the actual cost of educating your daughter. Each year, we ask families to make a meaningful contribution to the Parent Pledge that is both generous and reasonable for them--whether $25 or $2,500. Your gift is unrestricted and directed to areas with the greatest need. Our goal is 100% parent participation, demonstrating Mercy families' commitment to women's education and increasing Mercy's opportunities to receive funds from foundations, corporation, and alumnae.

Welcome Back!
The Business Office extends a warm welcome to our new families who have joined the Mercy Community and a hardy welcome back to those returning! We stand ready to assist you if any questions arise throughout the year.
A friendly reminder before school begins, that all financial obligations (July tuition payment) must be up to date prior to the first day of school. If you are delinquent, your daughter will not receive her semester class schedule!
It is important that you remain on time with your tuition payments. If you fail to make a scheduled payment on the payment date you selected, SMART Tuition will assess a $40.00 late fee to your account. This fee is not assessed by Mercy, so it is critical that you are on time with payments if you do not want late fees.

We also partner with Epicurean in offering breakfast selections before school, and a snack bar after school. While lunch is included in tuition, the breakfast and snack bar items must be purchased. We utilize a cashless, secure, online payment system called MySchoolBucks.
