Move Out - May 1st - 16th 2021: Plan, Pack, Place
Good Evening -

The Office of Residence Life and Housing understands student and family concerns about gas shortages and the ongoing move-out process. We are monitoring this situation closely. To allow more flexibility as each family acts in their best interest, we are suspending formal move-out appointments. Those residents with a standing appointment may now move at the time most convenient for them and their family.

While residents not approved to stay for Commencement or Interim Housing should still plan on departing by our closing date (May 16 at 2:00 p.m.), we hope this rescinding of move-out appointments provides each family the ability to adapt their plans according to the still-changing circumstances. Students who believe they will be unable to travel by May 16 should email [email protected] to share their circumstances and why they don’t believe they can leave campus on time. We will review and respond to these requests as quickly as possible.

We encourage those accessing campus to take applicable safety precautions while in our residential communities and to avoid overcrowding any particular space.
As a reminder:
  • Students will be limited to TWO helpers to assist with their move-out.
  • Masks should be worn at all times while in our residential communities.
  • All occupancy signage (including on elevators and in common areas) must be followed.
  • Whenever possible, no more than one of a resident’s helpers should be in a given bedroom at one time. Please stagger your packing and moving as much as possible.
  • If and when possible, plan for gas outages in major urban areas - including within Winston-Salem. As this situation develops, we continue to see the most outages in more densely populated areas across North Carolina.  Some have found the GasBuddy app to be helpful in seeing which stations may have fuel.

As this situation continues to develop, we will keep you updated should guidance or policies shift any further. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to [email protected] or 336.758.5185.

Note that we may be experiencing higher call volume than usual but will work to respond to each inquiry as quickly as possible.
