WEATHER FORECAST FORCES FESTIVAL CHANGES

Despite Saturday's forecast of thundershowers, the Virginia Science Festival in Roanoke will still go on ... just indoors! So for a fun -- and dry! -- day of science, make plans to attend the festival.

All exhibits that were located in Elmwood Park -- including NASA's EarthDome -- will now be housed within the Roanoke Market Building, Taubman Museum of Art, Center in the Square, and Science Museum of Western Virginia.

The Roanoke Blacksburg Technology Council's TechJam and all robot exhibits will be inside the Taubman Museum of Art's theater.

A portion of WDBJ7 WeatherFest will go inside Center in the Square atrium, while visitors can meet WDBJ7's meteorologists -- and act like one! -- inside the Science Museum's WDBJ7 Weather Studio.

The first-ever U.S. Pea Shooting Championship will take place in the Roanoke Market Building food court mezzanine.

All other Elmwood Park exhibitors will be spread throughout the Roanoke Market Building (Charter Hall and food court), Center in the Square, and Science Museum.

The festival opens Saturday at 10 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m.

Valley Metro's free Star City Trolley Service will run 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. between the Roanoke Market Building and the festival's two other locations: Jefferson College of Health Sciences, and Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, which is offering free and plentiful parking all day.

Astronaut Larry DeLucas will deliver a fun and family-friendly presentation in the Science Museum's Hopkins Planetarium starting at 11 a.m. Attendance is free, but you must obtain your free admission ticket first from WDBJ7 WeatherFest.

Friday's Science Festival School Preview Day for nearly 1,300 area schoolchildren will continue as is.
