Lake Pointe Wastewater Treatment Plant 5-Year Permit Renewal

Due to the significant amount of public interest and resident complaints received, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), which authorizes the wastewater plant's permit renewal, has scheduled a Public Meeting for neighbors to provide input or ask questions about the Lake Pointe Wastewater Treatment plant's 5-year permit renewal application that the West Travis County Public Utility Agency (WTCPUA) has submitted.

Please join us at this important meeting to help make our voices heard.

Background:

During the past year, the Lake Pointe HOA and affected residents have been working with the plant owner, WTCPUA, to try to resolve on-going maintenance and odor issues at the plant. The plant is located off of Napa Drive next to our HOA Napa Park and near several surrounding residences. 

The WTCPUA board has stated that its goal is to decommission our plant and move its current wastewater operation to the Bohl's Treatment plant on Bee Cave Parkway. In light of this, we have requested that WTCPUA provide a detailed plan and schedule outlining how and when the Lake Pointe plant will be decommissioned within the next 3–5 years. To date, we have not received a proposed schedule, budget, or formal plan for that endeavor.

The HOA also wants the permit to include language to ensure the WTCPUA conducts regular inspections and maintenance of the aging plant facility, and that they resume on-site inspections of the commercial businesses that send their waste to the plant during the interim period to prevent nuisance odors that were so persistent throughout 2024.

What to expect:

During the Informal Comment Period of the Public Meeting, members of the public may ask questions or make comments that the board may answer. 

During the Formal Comment Period of the meeting, members of the public may orally state their comments into the official record.

If you're unable to attend, you may still submit written comments. These formal comments will be considered and receive a written response before the TCEQ reaches a decision on the permit application.
