We are saddened to have to share with you that this year’s Urban Bourbon Half Marathon presented by Jim Beam® has been cancelled because we were unable to hit our minimum registration numbers. As we previously shared, as a nonprofit we cannot risk losing money on this event. Our break-even registration number was 1,900, and we made it to 1,150.
We’d like to express our sincerest thank you to everyone who registered for and supported the 2020 UBHM.
While there was no single reason for not hitting break-even, we consistently heard from runners that the concerns about COVID-19 were the primary cause. Additionally, some runners have hung up their competition shoes for the season, others were concerned about travel and some still were not comfortable getting together in large groups, regardless of the safety precautions.
The good news is that we will be back on track for mid-October 2021 with the award-winning UBHM and the Urban Bourbon Bash, voted as one of the best post-race parties in America.
Regarding your race registration fees, you have three options.
- Donate all or part of your registration fee to support our youth-focused health equity initiative.
- Defer your registration to 2021. To defer, log into your RunSignUp account, go to “Profile” > “My Registered Races” > “View/Edit” > “Defer.”
- Receive a refund.
If you choose to donate your registration fee, please let me know no later than Friday, Oct. 30. If you choose to defer, please do so by that same date. Any registrations that are still active at that time will be deferred to 2021.
Also, if you purchased any add-ons, please let me know if you would like to donate that cost or receive a refund.
Stay healthy and keep sipping bourbon - American's only native spirit. We look forward to seeing you next year.
