Hello again, friends,

As I’m sure you all are aware, the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve with new guidelines and recommendations for community gatherings. Currently the request is that any event with more than 25 people should be cancelled or changed into something virtual.

So it feels like the most responsible thing to do is to take our Sunday service completely online. We will stream a service at 10:15am Sunday morning (March 15) that includes many of the elements that we originally planned. We’ll have video messages from Rev. Carlton Smith and Carey McDonald, music from our wonderful music program, and some brief reflections from myself and from Walter. Please plan on joining us virtually. I think we need one another now! You'll be able to access the streamed service on our website ( www.uucava.org ) and Facebook page .

I have resisted this step because I believe so strongly that community is needed during times of crisis. And what I have come to realize is that this is about more than just us as individuals or as a community. It is about our entire social structure that we may be putting at risk. This article in the Atlantic helped me to see this: https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/03/coronavirus-cancel-everything/607675/

Going forward, we have decided to close the church building to any meetings or events beginning on Saturday afternoon. In this week to come, the staff and other key lay leaders will work assiduously to put together a plan for how we may stay connected in a variety of ways - through worship, small group meetings, and other types of connections. Please be patient with us as we develop these ideas this week. We plan to have a live-streamed service next Sunday, March 22, also at 10:15am.

A number of you have already reached out to me to volunteer to be of assistance to those who may be of need. Bless you! If any of you are willing to join a cadre of connectors, please email Sarah Masters at DirCL@uucava.org or myself at tcooley@uucava.org

We are a strong community with values that can and will sustain us. Let us hold one another in our hearts.

In faith,
