The Board of Trustees passed
Board Resolution 2020-07S-04(b) on July 31, 2020. This resolution changes the requirements for county board member participation in IMRF. We will no longer require recertification of county board positions. Refer to
Special Memo 340 for more information.

Recertification no longer required
On June 3, 2020, in
Williamson County Board of Commissioners v. Board of Trustees of Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund, 2020 IL 125330, the Illinois Supreme Court struck down this part of the law [contained in
40 ILCS 5/7-137.2(a)].
County boards no longer have to recertify county board member eligibility after each election.
Board Resolution 2020-07S-04(b) contains current rules
The IMRF Board has passed Board Resolution 2020-07S-04(b) in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Court.
Please note that while county boards do not need to recertify their positions as eligible after each election, they must have a current and valid resolution on file in order for any county board member to participate in IMRF, under Board Resolution 2019-05-09(d).
