Following the reports on new updates from NHS England and NHS Improvement that Sustainability and Transformation Plan leaders have been warned of an "extremely constrained capital environment", Leesa Ewing, Commercial Director, IMS MAXIMS said:

"Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STPs) present a significant opportunity to deliver financial sustainability and truly transformational change by 2020 for the NHS, but reports on a constrained capital environment from today should not hinder the progress in delivering benefits of digital healthcare.

Technology is a primary change agent in this debate and must therefore be front and centre of any STP. Following the reports of warnings from NHS England and NHS Improvement that funding for technology could come at the back end of the planning period, STP leaders should take action to avoid any delays to digital projects that are necessary to deliver technology-led clinical and efficiency benefits that NHS providers are demanding now."

Our customer Taunton & Somerset FT awaits news on becoming a Centre for Global Digital Excellence

UK Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, is expected to announce the first  set of
successful applicants for funding to become Centres for Global Digital Excellence at this year's NHS Health and Care Innovation Expo.

The announcement follows an invitation for funding from NHS England and NHS Improvement to the 26 most digitally advanced acute trusts in the UK. Applicants must demonstrate that they have the potential to become world leaders in health informatics by 2018.

This is a particularly exciting time for our customer Taunton and Somerset FT who have submitted an application. We wish them the best of luck in their bid.

Jeremy Hunt is scheduled to speak at 2pm on 7th September, on the Future NHS Stage.
