Mendicino Cares More About Drug Dealers than Your Family’s Safety

When political considerations drive government policy, the results are always disastrous for ordinary Canadians.

If Marco Mendicino actually cared about the safety of Canadians, he would plug the revolving door in our justice system that sees violent criminals arrested repeatedly for serious crimes – include violating Firearm Prohibition Orders – only to be released so they can commit more crimes.

This is a serious public safety issue we’ve raised regularly with this government, only to be ignored.

Neither Mendicino nor any of his Liberal predecessors have lifted a finger to stop this madness.

They don’t dare, because this Liberal government depends upon the ongoing violence committed by these criminals to keep uninformed voters scared. As we’ve learned, a terrified population will accept any measure, no matter how absurd, so long as it promises that most beloved of all unicorns, safety.

Mendicino uses the tragic deaths caused by violent criminals, drug dealers and gang members to perpetuate his government’s lie.

If we take guns away from law-abiding Canadians, criminals will stop shooting up Canadian streets. We promise!

In a land of Liberal unicorns and fairy dust, maybe, but not here on Planet Earth where more government regulation didn’t prevent 1,791 convicted criminals from violating their existing Firearm Prohibition Orders in 2021.[i]

Nor will it stop the estimated 1,853 convicted criminals who will violate their Firearm Prohibition Orders by the end of this year.

It is to Canada’s eternal shame that our Liberal Prime Minister and successive Ministers of Public Safety are, like a horse with blinders on, focused on the only thing they can see: more votes from uninformed Canadians.

Keeping Canadians safe never enters their minds, beyond their use of the phrase to distort reality to suit their self-serving agenda.

Their endless, deceitful virtue signalling on firearms notwithstanding, confiscating lawfully-possessed firearms from licensed Canadian gun owners will never stop violent criminals, drug dealers and gang members from shooting innocent people in our major cities.

You don’t solve a problem by ignoring it.

You solve a problem by dealing with it, no matter how difficult or how politically unpopular it may be.

It’s called behaving with integrity – an ideal our political class has long forgotten.

The sooner all Canadians wake up to this stark reality, the better off we all will be.

RE: Bill C-21
What are the next legislative steps and timing associated with them to implement the Liberals current hand gun bill.

Clarifying the current process, the stage we are at now, and when this bill could be put into law, would be helpful.

Thank you.

Greg
We are currently in the *Committee stage of the House of Commons. The sequence goes like this:

  1. Notice – A Member must give 48 hours notice of the introduction of a bill.
  2. First Reading – The new bill is read into the record as an introduction to the House.
  3. Second Reading – Provides an opportunity to debate the bill on its general scope and principle. Once the bill is adopted at second reading, it is then referred to Committee.
  4. *Committee Stage – The bill and all its aspects are studied by the relevant committee.
  5. Report Stage – The Committee reports back to the House with recommended changes, if any. The House debates the recommended changes and votes on the changes.
  6. Third Reading – The House debates and passes (or not) the final form of the bill.

Referral to the Senate:

  1. The Senate proceeds through very similar steps as the House of Commons, and at the conclusion of those steps, the Senate will refer the bill back to the House, with or without recommended changes.
  2. The House will then consider the amendments, decide on them, and then refer the bill to the Governor General of Canada.
  3. The Governor General of Canada then gives Royal Assent to the bill, and it becomes the law of the land.

GET TOUGH ON ARMED CRIMINALS

Ottawa Sun | October 20, 2022

How can we come to an agreement on solutions to gun violence when the prime minister goes soft on armed criminals and gun smugglers and throws Canada’s licensed sport shooters under the bus?

In May, Trudeau claimed that his ill-conceived “handgun freeze“ would not punish legal handgun owners — not true.

At a press conference recently, Trudeau once again cast blame on these citizens, claiming that, “People buy guns legally on the market and then sell them to criminals.”

Handgun owners are specially trained and licensed by the government, and they need permits for every gun transfer or movement of the firearm. Failure to comply with myriad related regulations is punishable by jail time.

Prime Minister Trudeau will never make progress on gun violence if he continues to go easy on criminals while vilifying so many law-abiding citizens.
