British Columbia ran a real-world experiment on public safety.
It failed.
Spectacularly.
Created under Premier John Horgan and implemented by Premier David Eby, British Columbia decriminalized drug possession and expanded “safe supply” under the banner of compassion.
They assured us the illegal drug market would collapse.
It didn’t.
It spread like wildfire, fueled by “free” narcotics that police linked to B.C.’s “safe supply” program from as far away as Alberta[i] and Ontario.[ii]
THE LEAK THEY NEVER WANTED YOU TO SEE
A leaked B.C. Ministry of Health document confirms what experience on the streets have said for years:
A “significant portion” of prescribed opioids is being diverted, not just provincially, but nationally and internationally.
That’s not harm reduction. It’s “system leakage” at scale.
FOUR INCIDENTS. EIGHT DAYS. ONE PATTERN.
While government talks about “public health,” frontline policing tells the truth.
Kelowna, March 6, 2026.
- Eight firearms.
- Meth. Fentanyl. Cocaine.
- A 3D-printed gun operation.
Mission, March 9, 2026.
- A trafficking arrest.
- A prohibited weapon.
- A repeat offender with access to firearms.
Nanaimo, March 12, 2026.
- Meth. Fentanyl. Cocaine.
- Oxycodone. Benzodiazepines.
- Three firearms. Replica weapons. Body armour. Bladed weapons.
Salmon Arm, March 13, 2026.
- A traffic stop.
- A loaded handgun.
- Indicators of drug trafficking.
“Illegal drugs and firearms pose a serious risk to the public,” said RCMP Sgt. Simon Scott.
He’s right.
These are not isolated incidents.
This is a pattern, and patterns don’t lie.
THIS WAS PREDICTABLE
Strip away the bureaucratic language, and here’s what B.C.’s policy accomplished:
- Enforcement pulled back (decriminalized drug possession)
- Prescription drug supply increased
- Public use of drugs was intentionally normalized
- Criminals adapted
This wasn’t unintended. It was inevitable.
Criminals don’t read policy papers.
They read opportunity.
THE PART NO ONE WILL SAY OUT LOUD
“Safe supply” did not eliminate the black market.
It fed it. Directly.
When controlled substances enter circulation with street value, diversion is not a risk, it’s a certainty.
And once that product hits the street, it does what all commodities do.
It gets traded. It gets scaled. It gets controlled.
Illicit market control requires force, and that’s where the illegal guns come in.
NOT A LEGAL GUN OWNER PROBLEM
While this unfolds, the political narrative continues to target licensed firearms owners, the people who:
- pass background checks
- follow storage laws
- comply with regulations
They’re not the people being arrested during these seizures.
The firearms being recovered are tied to drug trafficking networks and organized crime.
This is where the political disconnect enters.
The people following the law aren’t the problem.
The people breaking it are.
And our politicians and bureaucrats refuse to face one simple fact: the policy is aimed in the wrong direction.
ONE HARD TRUTH
You can’t reduce harm while operating the system that produces it.
You can’t stabilize communities while destabilizing law enforcement.
Disarming lawful citizens does not disarm criminals.
And this “safe supply” policy can’t be called a success when the policy is already being rolled back.
British Columbia needs a reset grounded in reality, not political optics:
- Target organized crime and trafficking networks with priority enforcement
- Eliminate policy contradictions that create parallel legal and illegal supply streams
- Rebuild a public safety model that integrates treatment, enforcement, and accountability
- Refocus firearms policy on criminal misuse, not lawful ownership
Clarity. Structure. Accountability.
Without them, policy failure is not a possibility.
It is the inevitable result.
THE VERDICT IS ALREADY IN
The evidence isn’t hidden.
It is in RCMP press releases, news reports, and the growing presence of illegal drugs and guns on our streets.
Those press releases and news reports tell the truth every day.
The only question left is whether our government is willing to face it.

Good afternoon, Barry,
Thank you for your email and for taking the time to share your perspective, as well as your involvement in the hunting and sport shooting community.
Firearms regulation in Canada is primarily a federal responsibility, including legislation related to classification, licensing, and any associated compensation programs. Provinces, including Ontario, have a more limited role focused on administration, enforcement, and public safety.
While some provinces have taken different approaches within their jurisdiction, the Government of Ontario has not indicated plans to introduce similar legislation at this time.
Your comments have been noted and shared with our office.
Thank you again for writing.

Subject: System Maintenance Notice: Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program
Dear Sir,
My name is Peter Barker, I am a member of the CSSA. I have just tried to go online to register a firearm for surrender and compensation program and the portal to register a firearm is down for maintenance. See PDF of page on Sunday 15th March
https://firearms-compensation-indemnisation-armes-feu.canada.ca/
The time period to register a firearm is supposed to stay open to the end of the month, 31 March. I suspect games are being plaid here. I have attached a PDF of the web site as of Sunday 15 March, well within the deadline for registering a firearm. If this is still the case on Monday I suggest that the Conservative opposition are contacted to they can ask the question why is the portal down and how are gun owners supposed to register their firearms for compensation if the web site and portal is down! It would also be worth contacting the media so they can report on this issue.
I suggest Brian Lilley

https://torontosun.com/author/blilleypostmedia/
With home owners now finding out their property rights are no longer secure, I suspect the issue of compensation for confiscated property is now a hot topic after the First Nations issues in Vancouver.
Yours faithfully,
Peter B.

Please tell the letter writer, Scott, they are referred to as "firearms" or even "guns" (if you must use the vernacular), but certainly not "weapons" as he does throughout his letter. Weapons are only such when used to commit bodily harm or damage to property. We don't need the Feds to have one more word to twist the narrative against us.

Subject: Firearm confiscation
Hi,
I am writing regarding Saskatchewan's legislation on compensation for firearms confiscated by the Federal government. Has there been any discussion with the Ford government of Ontario regarding enacting similar legislation for us in Ontario? I believe it would be an asset to all of us firearm owners, whether we are caught up in the current confiscation scheme or not.
My personal thoughts are that the current Federal government has not finished with us yet regarding taking away our sport and will do so in stages to suit their agenda, unless we put up roadblocks such as this, where full compensation would have to be paid in the event of prohibition of our firearms, which we are legally entitled to with our licences.
Peter S.
We are in touch with the Ford government as much as possible.

CFO for Ontario responds to the CSSA's Open Letter...
In our March 11, 2026 issue of eNEWS, the CSSA sent the Ontario Chief Firearms Officer a request for clarification as to who has the authority to revoke a firearms licence in Canada?
In that open letter, we asked three straightforward questions.
- Does the federal government hold the legal authority to direct the revocation of firearms licences?
- Will the Ontario Chief Firearms Officer revoke licences from individuals who possess prohibited firearms after the deadline, while the federal firearms confiscation program remains incomplete?
- If so, under what legal authority would those revocations occur?
Below is Superintendent Steven Thompson's reply, as well as CSSA's follow-up letter to Superintendent Thompson. We will keep you apprised of any further dialogue.
