FAIL! Bill Blair Cuts CBSA Funding, Redefines
the Word ‘Invest’

Bill Blair, Minister of Public Safety, misleads both the House of Commons and the Canadian people when he says he increased funding for the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

For the past three years, Minister Blair has repeated the same announcement, $51.5 million over five years to beef up border security.

He’s a broken record, repeating the same tired announcement every time a microphone finds its way in front of his face.

It’s no different in the House of Commons ( although the numbers change ).

“I'm glad the member mentioned gun smuggling because we invested $86 million in the CBSA and RCMP to conduct investigations at our border for those gangs and individuals responsible for smuggling guns,” [i] Bill Blair told the House of Commons on May 21, 2020.

Then he called out the previous Conservative government for doing precisely what he’s doing today – slashing the CBSA budget.

“In fact, a Conservative government, prior to our being elected, actually cut funding for the RCMP and our border services officers by hundreds of millions of dollars and thousands of people and staff, thereby weakening our response to those gangs.” [ii]

According to a document presented to Parliament, Minister Bill Blair plans to slash funding for the Canada Border Services Agency by $264.9 million in 2021 and another $125.1 million in 2022. [iii]

Pot.

Kettle.

Black.

Minister Blair repeatedly praises himself in Parliament for his “ investments in borders and law enforcement .” [iv]

Investing in the Canada Border Services Agency by slashing its budget by $390 million over the next two years?

Minister Blair, stop the constant lying to Canadians – both inside and outside of Parliament.

You are a Minister of the Dominion of Canada, and you are degrading the office you currently hold.

PETER MACKAY: A Message to Canada's Firearm Owners
CPC Leadership Candidate
Defending Legal Firearms Owners

“I have consistently defended lawful firearms owners who are already subject to strict ownership regulations in Canada.

Meanwhile, the Liberal government is targeting those same owners who already obey the law. What they should be doing, and what I will do as Prime Minister, is invest financial resources and law enforcement efforts in cracking down on the actual sources of gun crime – gang violence and trafficking in guns at our border. We need to enforce stricter penalties to address the real problem of illegal firearms coming across our borders and being used in crime in Canada.

I thank the legal firearms owners who participated in our town hall. It was a very positive discussion and I appreciate your input and insight.

Various opponents of my positions on this and other issues have regularly entirely misrepresented comments I have made on legal firearms in Canada, including on ‘select fire’ types of firearms that are capable of holding more than five rounds and able to select between fully automatic and semi-automatic fire modes.

I have consistently affirmed my position of keeping those prohibited in Canada. My position is not new. Those firearms have long been prohibited in Canada and I support them remaining so.

That is of no concern to the many legal firearms owners across our country who already comply with the law and who the Liberal government is unfairly targeting and maligning.

I will stand with you as Prime Minister.”

'I want a positive story': Why a Saskatoon Tribal Council partnership with wildlife federation could be groundbreaking

Pat McKay | CTV News, Saskatoon | July 9, 2020

SASKATOON -- They’re calling it a step forward in reconciliation.

“To the best of our knowledge, this is one of the first times that an organization such as ours has formed such a strong partnership with First Nations,” said Robert Freberg, a member of the board of directors for the Saskatoon Wildlife Federation.

On Thursday, the federation and Saskatoon Tribal Council (STC) signed seven memorandums of understanding with different Indigenous communities in Saskatchewan.

The partnership looks to achieve education, conservation, and the preservation and celebration of Indigenous heritage through the creation of youth programs.

“Firearm safety, whether it’s hunting ethics, whether it’s understanding each other’s rights, that’s just huge,” said Freberg.
Lawsuit against Trudeau's gun grab will move forward

Collin Jones | The Post Millennial | July 13, 2020

The Justice Centre announced that it will be moving forward in applying to challenge the constitutionality of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Cabinet Order of confiscating property that was legally acquired by Canadians, according to the Justice Centre's  website .

The Justice Centre reported: "The Justice Centre’s intervention application will focus on the Constitution’s allocation of legislative power to Parliament, and the Constitution’s inherent safeguards which are intended to prevent the tyranny of a government that operates independently of democratically-elected representatives. The Justice Centre is preparing its intervention application and will release further details in the days ahead."Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on May 1 that the Canadian government had issued a ban on "models and variants" of firearms that he referred to as "military-grade assault-style weapons."

This came shortly after the Nova Scotia shooting in mid-April, ending the lives of 22 people.

Gun ban good for business

Assault-style gun ban actually increased business for Vernon gun shop

John Lawless | castanet.net | July 10, 2020

Last May, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau banned a variety of assault-style weapons in the wake of the Nova Scotia shooting spree. One would assume a ban on firearms would hinder business for a gun shop, but that hasn't been the case.

The manager of Del Selin Gun Shop in Vernon says the ban has actually increased business over the past couple months.

"All it did was increase business dramatically," says the manager of the shop, Aaron, who declined to give his last name. "After hearing about the ban, our customers are buying guns while they still can in case another ban comes through."

Even though business has been good, gun shop owners are vocal about their displeasure with the ban. They say the government has not been co-operative in terms of communication, and they are leaving them to find out information on the evolving ban on their own.

Derek Sloan has big news for the gun community

Right Edition, Kelowna, BC | News Release | July 10, 2020

Four candidates are running for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada. Each of them has promised to cancel the gun laws introduced by the Trudeau government that target lawful citizens including 2.5 million licensed gun owners.

Derek Sloan is the only person in the race for the leadership who moves beyond just canceling one silly law, he has an 11 point gun program which is intended to regain lost ground and freedom, taken from all Canadians.

Art Hoivik, HACS Vice President, presents Ron Tyson with a plaque recognizing
Ron's 50 years of service to HACS.
Photos courtesy of Bryan Gagne
One of the founding members of HACS 50 years ago, Ron Tyson, is retiring!

Ron organized and set up the shows in Vancouver, Burnaby and Coquitlam. He had help, of course, but no one worked harder than Ron. It was a major social part of his lifestyle. His wife travelled with him to gun shows across Canada and the United States. Ron also has served as President for many years. When we had to leave Burnaby, the shows were re-located to Chilliwack where HACS has enjoyed several years of successful gun shows.

In appreciation for all Ron has done for HACS, he was presented with a plaque of Recognition for his Service. It was intended that the plaque presentation occur at the March show's annual general meeting, but Covid-19 struck.

However, we did manage to find Ron manning a table at the Hunting and Fishing show at the Armouries Hall on Princess Avenue in Chilliwack on July 11th. Seeing him there, HACS Vice President Art Hoivik ran home, got the plaque and presented it to Ron that afternoon in front of some of his peers. Ron was surprised as you can see in the photos – thank you Bryan Gagne!

We wish Ron all the very best and thank him again for all his hard work over these many years!

Taber, Alberta, police to get new guns after old ones wear out from 'excessive use'

The town is home to less than 10,000 people, yet has its own police force of 15 officers. The emergency purchase of five new guns will cost roughly $12,500

Tyler Dawson | The Leduc Rep | July 13, 2020

EDMONTON — Police in the small southern Alberta town of Taber are in the market for new carbines — a short rifle used on patrol — as their old ones wore out from too much use.

The town, famed for its corn, is located about one hour north of the U.S.-Canada border, and is home to less than 10,000 people. Even so, it has its own police force of 15 officers, one of the only small towns in Alberta with its own police. Most smaller municipalities in the province are policed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Since 2009, officers in Taber have used four Heckler & Koch 416 patrol rifles,  a variant of which  was reportedly used by U.S. Navy Seal Team Six to kill Osama bin Laden in May 2011.

The Czech Republic’s Constitutional Right to Bear Arms

Christopher di Armani | christopherdiarmani.com | July 9, 2020

On December 15, 2016, the Czech Republic began the process to enshrine the right to bear arms in its constitution.

Google Translate’s rendition of the  original Czech constitutional amendment :

In light of the current security situation in the world, it is proposed in the Constitutional Act on the Security of the Czech Republic to enshrine the right of citizens to use weapons and ammunition in defence of life, health and property.

This movement was a direct response to the European Union’s 2016  Firearms Directive 91/477/EEC , which demanded all EU nations adhere to minimum standards for firearm laws.

These minimum standards, under four separate categories of firearms, included:
  • Prohibiting automatic firearms, explosive, incendiary ammunition and flechettes (think Canada’s Bill C-51 in 1997)
  • Restricting firearm ownership to those 18 years old and older with prior authorization (similar to Canada’s firearm licensing system for gun owners)
  • A ban on any firearm that looked similar to any automatic firearm (sound familiar?)

U.S. loosens export curbs on gun silencers

Reuters | Regina Leader-Post | July 10, 2020

WASHINGTON — The United States on Friday rolled back a 2002 restriction on exporting silencers that suppress the loud noise from gunfire, in a victory for U.S. firearms manufacturers.

The industry has lobbied the government since 2017 to allow the sale of firearms sound suppressors to individuals in other countries, not just foreign militaries and police.

“Effective immediately, the Department of State has rescinded its April 18, 2002, firearms sound suppressor policy,” according to the State Department website.

The new guidance followed an interagency review started in 2017 that “addresses the concerns from U.S. companies they were losing potential sales to foreign manufacturers of firearms sound suppressors,” a department spokesman said in an email.

Silencers will now be able to be licensed and exported like any other weapon on the U.S. munitions list which includes satellites and nuclear weapons.

The State Department said all silencer export licenses would be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. (Reporting by Mike Stone; Editing by Richard Chang)

'Gun Control Myths' a New Book by John R. Lott, Out Now

F Riehl, Editor in Chief | Ammoland Inc. | July 13, 2020

USA – -( AmmoLand.com )- My new book, “Gun Control Myths,” is, I think, is one of my best. The book explains the problems with all the common false claims continually made about guns in the media and by gun control advocates. It covers myths about mass public shootings, how suicides and crime vary with gun ownership, how politics corrupts the FBI's gathering of crime data, and gun-free zones. Andrew Pollack, whose daughter was murdered in the Parkland school shooting, was kind enough to write the book's forward. For a donatio of $30 or more , we will send you a signed copy of the book. Here is some of the praise the book has received.

“John Lott has been giving us the facts about guns for decades. Finally clear to all that one party in America has an anti-Second Amendment platform and wants to disarm you. Now you need to arm yourself with the Truth. Buy and read Gun Control Myths today. Before it’s too late.” ~ Sebastian Gorka Ph.D.,host of AMERICAN First, former Strategist to President Trump.

NSSF’s First Shots Clay Targets Turns First-timers
Into Return Shooters

Jim Grant | Ammoland Inc. | July 12, 2020

U.S.A. -( AmmoLand.com )- “Gun clubs need to be warm, friendly and inviting,” says Skip Smith, General Manager of Drake Landing in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. “You need your base of regular shooters and members, but you also need to attract new shooters. If those new shooters don’t feel welcome and if they don’t have fun, they will find something else to do with their time and their money.”

The first thing you notice about Smith is how much he loves to teach. A Level 3  National Sporting Clays Association  instructor, Skip is happiest in front of a group of new shooters who are about to experience the fun of breaking clays in a beautiful setting—and he’s found NSSF’s new  First Shots Clay Targets  program is a great way to make that happen.

“First Shots Clay Targets is about learning the basics,” Smith asserts. “I never rush people or put them on shots they won’t hit. I try to make them successful, because that is what brings them back.”

Best defence is to be armed

Claude Coutore, Sudbury, ON | The Kingston Whig-Standard | July 12, 2020

Some truths: AR-15s have never been used to kill anyone in Canada as the civilian version is not designed to “kill the largest amount of people in the smallest amount of time.” ARs have been banned from hunting for decades and large-capacity magazines are prohibited in Canada.

It is now accepted knowledge that gun control and firearm confiscations do not affect suicide and murder rates. Those committed to performing these acts will find alternate ways to do so.

So why does the Trudeau cabinet blatantly and repeatedly lie to Canadians? Votes maybe?
Public safety? I’m skeptical. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated, “these firearms have no place in Canada” and yet police forces still use them.

Which is it? Place or no place?

Recent liberal gun ban has nothing to do wit h public safety

David Vernon, Comox, BC | comoxvalleyrecord.com | July 8, 2020

Dear editor,

Re:  Weapons ban puts Canadians’ health and well-being first  letter of July 1 from Dr. Charles King.

With all due respect to Dr. King’s profession, being a doctor does not make him an expert in firearms, firearms law or criminology in general.

His entire letter parrots the lies trotted out by the left on a subject they know nothing about.

The recent Liberal gun ban has nothing to do with public safety. It is a cornerstone of modern left-wing ideology. Every aspect of Trudeau’s and Blair’s gun policy is a lie and relies on duping an uninformed public for its success.

UPCOMING GUN SHOWS

NOTE: Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, public events, including many gun shows, have been cancelled for the coming months. Please check with your local gun show coordinators before heading out to any scheduled events. Thank you.
