2018 INA Coin Show Recap

The 80 th Annual Iowa Numismatic Associations’ Coin Show and Convention is past history. The Des Moines Coin Club hosted this years’ show and they did a wonderful job as usual. This year the show was in The Palace in Adventureland Park in Altoona, Iowa. The facility was very spacious and with convenient loading and unloading for the dealers.
As in many new venues, dealers and the public alike had a few difficulties getting to their destination even though there were lots of signs in place. We are planning on having the show there again next year so I am sure that anyone that was there this year will have an easier time.

Our line-up of exhibits and 4 free seminars was unprecedented. They were all very informative and very interesting.
Coin Talk with Brian Dresback
It’s getting to that time of year again when we see all the Christmas Decorations going up, Christmas Music on the radio and playing in stores and we haven’t even had our Turkey yet. I hope everyone has a great holiday season and stays safe and warm this winter.

With all that said it is also that time of year when I let you know that we have our Christmas Silver Rounds in for the year and hope that you will stop in early to get them as we tend to run out of a few towards Christmas. Pictured below are some of the designs that we have this year and as always we have velvet boxes to put them in, they cost $4, and can do a hand script engraving, by yours truly for $2.95. The coins themselves are based on the price of silver and vary all throughout the day, currently they are running $20.50 per coin (price subject to change).
If there is anything you would like to know more about please feel free to send me an email at  [email protected]  and I will do my best to answer your questions.

New Arrivals
We are still on a roll!

The first coin we would like to share with you this month is an 1872 3-Cent Nickel. We have shared similar ones with you all before but we really like these coins when they are higher grades. It is graded by PCGS as an MS64 and is priced at $540.

The next 2 coins are the same date, mint mark, and denomination but have different grades. They are both 1890-O Morgan Dollars and are graded by PCGS, with one graded MS64DMPL and the other graded MS65.
Most of you may know this but DMPL stands for ‘Deep Mirror Proof Like’ and can add more value to the coin than one grade higher. For example these two coins, the MS64DMPL is priced at $1560 while the MS65, being a grade higher, is only priced at $1440. The PCGS definition for Deep Mirror Proof Like is clear reflection in the fields on both sides from at least six inches away. There must be full, undistorted reflectivity on both the obverse and reverse.
We have had a few other items come in lately so stop in and take a look before they are gone. We have started a good streak of newsletter worthy items so stay tuned for new arrivals next month!
