Senators Seek Increased Funding, Improvements to Rural Healthcare Program
Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) and 14 other Senators sent a letter to FCC Chairman Ajit Pai on August 20, urging him to increase funding for and improve the operations of the Rural Health Care (RHC) program.

The Senators asserted that the demand for telehealth has dramatically increased due to the pandemic, resulting in increased costs and stretched capacity for health providers. They claimed the FCC has denied the RHC program sufficient funds to operate and delayed making funding decisions that would send aid to communities across the country.
Senators Ask FCC to Boost Lifeline Program
to Keep Students Connected
Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), et al. sent a letter to FCC Chairman Ajit Pai on August 27, asking the FCC to boost its Lifeline program to keep students connected.

They asked the FCC to put in place a plan to respond to the pandemic and to immediately take steps to implement reforms that will bridge the homework gap. They said reforms should include additional financial support for Lifeline providers to temporarily expand unlimited mobile data and voice minutes to consumers to keep them connected during the pandemic, among other things.
