Webinar on Advancing IP Routing with Confidence: Using LERG to Support Transition from TDM to IP

Last week Connie Hartman, TNS's director - Product Management for the Communications Market, led a webinar, Advancing IP Routing with Confidence: Using the LERG to Support the Transition from TDM to IP.

During the webinar, which is now available to view on-demand, Connie explored how TNS, through the TRA LERG Routing Guide & RouteSelect, enables CSPs to simply and securely publish and leverage authoritative IP routing information at the Central Office Code and Thousands-Block level, including IP-capable number ranges, IP-routable Local Routing Numbers (LRNs) and associated Fully Qualified Domain Names (FQDNs).

FCC Submits Reimbursement Program Report to Congress

The FCC submitted an eighth report to Congress on the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Reimbursement Program.

The report, prepared by the Wireline Competition Bureau, provided information on additional steps the FCC has taken to implement the program since the December 2025 report, and provided an update on recipient progress toward removal, replacement and disposal of covered communications equipment and services in the intervening months.

FCC Grants Extension to File Comments on AT&T Petitions

The FCC's Wireline Competition Bureau issued an order granting in part the California Public Utility Commisision's separate motions seeking an extension to file comments on AT&T’s petitions for a declaratory ruling that any California law or regulation that interferes with or otherwise conditions AT&T’s ability to discontinue POTS as authorized by the FCC is preempted and for an extension of the forbearance from the eligible telecommunications carrier requirements set forth in Section 214(e), within its California service territory.

The Bureau granted partial extensions of the comment and reply comment deadlines in both proceedings. Comments are now due July 7, 2026, and replies are due July 22, 2026.

FERC Takes Action to Speed Large Load Integration

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued tailored show cause orders under Section 206 of the Federal Power Act to each of the six regional grid operators under its jurisdiction, directing them to justify or reform the rules that govern how data centers, manufacturing facilities and other large energy users connect to the electric grid.

The orders mark one of the most significant actions FERC has taken to modernize the nation's electric markets and push the economy into the future by speeding integration of large energy users onto the grid with additional rigorous consumer safeguards. By requiring Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs)/Independent System Operators (ISOs) and their transmission operators to either defend or revise their tariffs, FERC is moving to ensure that Americans have reliable, affordable power—even as electricity demand and technology accelerates.

Permitting Council Invests $14 Million Tech Solutions

In coordination with the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), the Permitting Council announced over $14 million to advance technology solutions at federal agencies to improve efficiency in the permitting process and accelerate review timelines.

A group of three projects will receive funding from the Permitting Council’s Environmental Review Improvement Fund to develop technology solutions that improve the efficiency of federal permitting. The three selected projects are:

  • Department of Homeland Security/U.S. Coast Guard; Online Bridge Permit IT Solution ($4.8 million)
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers: Regulatory Program Digital Modernization Initiative ($7.1 million)
  • National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA): Tiered EA Agent Tool ($2.8 million)

These projects advance President Trump’s Memorandum Updating Permitting Technology for the 21st Century and support CEQ’s Permitting Technology Action Plan
